Greg Maddux Apparently Likes to Pee on Rookies

If I had to guess, I'd say Greg Maddux probably doesn't mind Major League Baseball's more stringent drug testing this year. Do I say that just because he's a pitcher and doesn't want to face a batter all hopped up on 'roids? Well, maybe, but I also think he might just like the whole pissing in a cup part of it. From ESPN's Jerry Crasnick:

For a guy with a CPA's demeanor, he has a sense of humor that a 12-year-old would envy. Maddux is a master of strategically timed nose picking, sidling up to an unsuspecting rookie in the shower and urinating on the kid's leg, and inventing just the right nickname for a teammate with big ears, a prominent schnozz or some other pronounced physical qualities.

"I call him 'The Silent Scumbag,'" [David] Wells said. "You would perceive him to be Einstein because he's quiet and he's always sitting there at his locker with a crossword puzzle. But he's got a silent sickness to him, sort of like David Cone. Those quiet guys are the ones you have to watch out for."

So yeah, urinating on people is ... funny? And is Wells trying to say that Cone gets down like this, too? When you think about it, though, maybe we're just interpreting things wrong. Maddux is 40 years old, he's the alpha dog in that pack -- maybe he's just marking his territory.

I think Greg Maddux will get a pass on this one, but can you imagine if this were about Barry Bonds? For some reason I'm picturing Pedro Gomez sneaking into the shower after everyone leaves with a sponge ...

I played a lot of ball, 3 sports in H.S. and 2 in college. If someone would have done that to me, i'd a busted his teeth on the tainted shower room floor. Would not have mattered who it was. That's way beyond the line.

Also, You are correct to imagin how people would react if it had been Bonds. He would not only get no "pass', but they would be calling for his job... again, and again...and again...

I served in the 82d Airborne before "hazing" was a word,and trust me the pranks that went on their would make you cringe.
Had anyone ever pissed on me or anyone else I don't care who it is that guy would have been choking on his own nut sac.
We were in Panama and a cadre member at the Joint training Jungle school academy said,"if your buddy gets dehydrated and goes down you can cool him off by pissing on him."To a man it was deemed more noble to die of dehydration than to suffer the the humiliation of someone pissing on you.And that was a matter of life and death.
I don't write this to come across as macho,but to voice how wrong it is for anyone to feel they are so superior or hold a higher value than another and therefore can just piss on them.I hope the next time Maddux decided to deliver a "golden shower" he receives a royal ass kicking for his troubles.
Everyone went crazy over Romonowski and other guys spitting on other players(I agree),but how come some find Maddux pissing on a dude to be funny baseball humor?
Let someone piss on you and see how funny you think it is.
As for fat boy David Wells,he would go ballistic if it happened to him although I'm guessing he's spent more than a few nights passed out in his own piss.

It doesn't suprise me about Maddox. He has a tendency to show a real lack of class. When he was in Atlanta in the 94 strike season and a replacement pitcher filled in to earn money for his daughter's operation, Greg Maddox in an interview referred to the guy as a piece of **##. This was after the interviewer had explained to Maddox that the guy had no desire to stay in the major leagues, he just wanted to take care of his daughter. I also agree with an earlier reader, if anyone urinated on my leg in the shower, he would get punched in the face.

bad, No, he's not the only one that does that. i had a black lab that did it to my landlord.

You just don't go around peeing on somebody, joke or not, it's over the line. I gotta wonder what's going on in his head for him to think of doing something like this. All i can think of is that he must be a sick, twisted, perverted jerk and anyone who disagrees is likewise but welcome to do so.
