White Sox general manager Ken Williams likes to ride around his teams spring training in his golf cart. The golf cart has affectionately, or not affectionately actually, come to be known by those within the organization as "The Woodshed on Wheels."
You see, Ken Williams is a man of many moods. While he's generally a pretty nice guy, when he gets angry, he gets angry.
Andrew Sisco found that out the hard way on Wednesday after a poor outing in a "B" game. Sisco lasted an inning and a third giving up three earned runs. Other innings had to be stopped earlier due to pitchers exceeding pitch counts--if you're unaware of how serious these "B" games are, read this--so Sisco was the straw that broke the general managers back.
Williams called Sisco over to his golf cart, and laid into him. Williams didn't want to talk about it afterward, but Sisco was more than accomodating. When asked whether it was a positive discussion, Sisco answered honestly.
''Not really. But I would much rather have Kenny be honest with me than to blow smoke up my [butt]. I want to know where I'm at. If I stink, you need to let me know. Don't try to coddle me. I'm 24 years old. I've been playing pro ball for six years, and I've heard it all. I don't expect Kenny to do that, either. That's not how they do things over here. You get a lot of respect on the players' side because they deal with us that way.''
After the interview, Sisco went straight to his room without dinner and finished his homework.

Kinda hard to believe a pro athlete would respond to that kind of discipline and criticism. Refreshing.
