We already told you that Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa was arrested for DUI, but there are more details to the story. From the Palm Beach PostUndercover officers spotted a dark-blue Ford sport utility vehicle stopped at Frederick Small Boulevard and Military Trail at about midnight. The transmission was in drive and the engine was running, officers said. LaRussa had his foot on the brake but did not initially respond to repeated knocking on the window, police said. After repeated knocks, LaRussa woke up. An officer administered a roadside sobriety test after noticing the smell of alcohol, police said. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says LaRussa was barely over the limit
The police report said he had been given a field sobriety test that showed La Russa's blood alcohol level was 0.093. Florida law considers 0.080 driving under the influence. He gave two breath samples at Palm Beach County Jail before being booked. The charge is a misdemeanor, and La Russa posted a $500 bond.Imagine what it must have been like for the players to show up at the spring training facility and not see LaRussa in his office, only to find out he was busted for a DUI -- crazy.
LaRussa now joins Nationals GM Jim Bowden in the exclusive club of baseball management cited for DUIs.

.013 over. That is like a 1/4 of a beer. sucks
NOT SETTIN' A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR THE CHILDRENS TONY!!
BETTER GET YOSELF INTO THAT REHAB PLACE LIKE BRITTANY.
The truest description of news reporters is exactly the same as the description of a vulture. The same is true of small town police who work in cooperation with the vultures.
How many of his critics could bear up under the rigors of running a world championship baseball team at age 62? The other point is that he was STOPPED at a light....he didn't hit anyone or anything. Why does his name deserve any more attention than anyone else considering the damage it would do....and for what?
LaRussa has not always been my favorite manager, but I respect him and think he deserves much better treatment that he is receiving.
To the type of news media who live off human failure regardless of circumstances....you make me want to vomit. I guarantee you one day you will be the victim and not the reporter.
ahahaha, well i wouldn't go as far as to say that it's all good because he didn't hit anyone, he did break a law, he shouldn't have been driving he if was going to fall asleep with the car in drive and his foot on the brake, but i agree that this is going to get blown out of proportion. his name's getting more attention because he's famous. that's just what happens, i guess. they are alreayd talking about it on st louis radio, barf. p.s. vanessa williams got arrested for DUI last night, too! they are like DUI buddies!
Well its obvious the man cant handle his liquor, even if barely over the legal limit--being passed out at a light with your vehicle in gear doesnt show good judgement.
Need to find out more on this guy, like if he's always had a drinking problem and its been masked by the very same reporter vultures the previous commentor is damning.
Wondering back to the late 70's/ early 80's when he was the Sox manager and with a couple of coaches went into a rage after a game with TV commentator Jimmy Piersal and Harry Caray---was he lit than and has carried the problem all these years?
Its great all the work he does with Dog Rescuing and such. But I've always suspected he was some kind of "head case", with a certain arrogance and distance kept with others---wondering now if its been the booze all along. There is help if he needs it. If he doesnt need it and he doesnt have a drinking problem, than he's just a dummy and a dangerous one at that when behind a wheel. Do Society a favor as you have done with dogs---stay off the road Tony.
all this publicity over 1/4 of a beer over limit. Tony is one of the classiest men in baseball he deserves better treatment than this, its not as if he caused an accident or hurt any one. Shame on that officer.
Media attention aside, the best thing that ever to me was getting a DUI 10 years ago. I haven't had a drink since and my health and pocketbook are much better off.
The only way i knew for sure that i wouldn't get another of those god awful tickets was to just quit. So, i took a $100 bet on being able to stop for a month. Won that bet and felt so much better i kept going. Wasn't really that hard to do.
A DUI ticket should be a major red flag to yourself. If you choose to keep going as usual, your only kidding yourself and are asking for major troubles, litterally, down the road.

Hey Almanorjoey... you drinking again? You posted the same thing 3 times...
I sorta like the idea of an ex-lawyer getting busted....
Imagine waking up in your cell this morning and seeing Tony LaRussa next to you?? "I aint smoking this weed no more!!"
Hey the alcohol level wasn't from drinking... It was from all the hair dye he uses!! And he passed out from the smell...
It says he fell asleep, not passed out. Big difference. I once fell asleep at a stop light at 6AM one morning many years ago. It was because I was very tired after 36 straight hours of work, no alcohol involved. From his breathalyzer reading, he obviously did not pass out. Use your head buddy.
In any event, he should be punished like anyone who does exceeds the limit. Sure it wasn't by much but there has to be a line in the sand and he crossed it. Too effing bad for arrogant Tony.
Hang in there Mr. LaRussa. It may seem bad now, and I am sure you regret your decisions, but it is not the end of the world. Several of us have been there, just not so much in the spotlight. It will get better.
JTC, Drinking, Naw not me, Why what did you hear? Just kidding. Sorry about the three same posts I typed it out and clicked the add comment button, got a note that there was no data. Clicked it again,...So, now i know why i see this happening in others posts.
I'm new to this speaking my mine in print. i kinda like it, think i have the experience and common sence to contribute in a positive and humurious way. Only wish there were less closed minded, hard headed, hippocrites out there in blog land[present company and many others excluded] and that i could spell a little better.
It's the jist of it that matters.
What sucks is that even if LaRussa had turned off the engine, he still would've gotten a DUI if left the keys in the ignition. So there you go, a harmless man that isn't even drunk or driving, sleeping on the side of the rode, being harassed by undercover police who have nothing better to do but give out DUI's. I hope tony wiped his buns with the check he gave to the city/county.
You people who keep saying it's not like he got into an accident do not see the whole picture. Thank God the cops found him before his foot released from that break and he rolled in to the intersection. It would be a totally different story today.
I have definitely heard in the past that
Tony is sort of a gourmet who regularly frequents the very best restaurant
and likes his wine. Whether that means he has a persistent drinking problem, I don't know.
Hey Jinks,
What are you drinking??
Your Quote;
""It says he fell asleep, not passed out. Big difference.""
The police report says the traffic light went through 2 cycles while he sat there with his head leaning on the steering wheel..one foot on the brake and one on the gas..Cars were having to drive around him... Cops had to bang on the window for quite awhile to awaken him. Then they had to request that he put the vehicle in Park before he took his foot off the gas!!! I would say this is PASSED OUT. He wasnt in the drivers seat with his sleeping bag and binky sitting by the side of the road!! He was sitting in the main lane of a major intersection slumped over with his foot on the gas and the SUV in Drive!! Thank God they got him off the road. The good news is the guy will get some help and he didnt hurt anyone by rolling into the intersection. He's a lucky Sh_t... Some DUI knuckleheads never get a second chance before they hurt someone.
Use your head, buddy..
Who's got the next round?
NOT A GOOD PLACE TO TAKE A NAP, TONY. OH WELL, LIFE GOES ON. THE WORST MISTAKE T.L. MADE WAS BEING FAMOUS. IF IT WAS SOME AVERAGE JOE, THE MEDIA WOULDN'T HAVE WASTED THEIR INK ON THE STORY. HERE'S TO 2ND CHANCES.
