With only a few days left in spring training, Albert Pujols has finally decided to get serious. He's struggled through the bulk of the exhibition schedule and really pretty much failed to hit anything. Well, that was until yesterday when Pujols decided to get serious about this whole baseball thing again. Don't you just love a player so good that with a week to go before the games start he can throw a switch and start dominating? Of course, maybe I'm making too big of an assumption to think he will simply dominate from here on out, but come on, it's Albert Pujols. Later on, the article talks about Chris Carpenter's easy 7 inning start in the same game. Those two are why everyone is still picking them to win the division and it's pretty easy to see why. They're certainly ready for this season to start. In his first at-bat Tuesday, his 63rd at-bat of the exhibition schedule, Pujols creamed Dodgers starter Brett Tomko's fastball for a bases-empty homer that traveled an estimated 440 feet. Weeks of dueling with gusting wind and gawky at-bats ended as Pujols pronounced himself - and his swing - on schedule, ready for the regular season with four games remaining between now and Sunday's opening night.
"I haven't been swinging the bat too well, but I've been working the last couple of days," said Pujols, who had two hits in three at-bats in the Cardinals' 3-0 victory at Roger Dean Stadium. "Obviously I'm seeing the ball better, putting (together) better at-bats."
