People of Canada! I understand that the NHL playoffs are upon us, and that's basically religion where most of you are concerned. But I wanted to take a moment of your time to inform you of a couple of things going on in the world of Major League Baseball that everyone in the Great White North can be proud of.
First, your Toronto Blue Jays, God love 'em, continue to impress. Just today, they finished off the Tampa Bay Devil Rays behind Roy "Give 'em" Halladay, who, amazingly, won his first game since last August. You will find your Jays currently seated atop the A.L. East.
Meanwhile, in New York, Canada's own Erik Bedard helped propel the Baltimore Orioles past the New York Yankees, at one point retiring 11 straight batters and no doubt driving George Steinbrenner to fits of apoplexy. Which, of course, is unstoppably awesome.
Again, I understand that it's hockey playoff time. And you need to pay close attention. So enjoy it. Honestly. I just want you to know that when all is said and done, baseball will be here for you.
