I keep thinking that the Josh Hamilton story can't get any better, and every single time I think that, I keep getting proved wrong. On Wednesday night, Hamilton doubled and homered, scoring two of the Reds' three runs in their 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks. The homer was his second in as many nights, two nights which happened to be his first two major league starts. He's now reached base in half of his 12 plate appearences, with his play thus far, manager Jerry Narron sees no reason to put him on the bench. "We've got to get him on the field with what he's done," Narron said. "The spring he had, the at-bats he's having right now. He looks like he belongs there. It's not going to be easy playing four outfielders, but we'll do what we can do."
The Cincy Enquirer (that first quote was from the Cincy Post) seems to think he'll probably start in center this afternoon agains the Cubs since Ryan Freel is off to a rough start in 2007. That means that Hamilton will get to face off against the one and only Big Z, who will be hoping to redeem his awful Opening Day start against the Reds and Aaron Harang, who got the win against the Cubbies in the opener.
