What do you do when your catcher fractures his hand?
If you're the Toronto Blue Jays, who just lost catcher Gregg Zaun for 6-8 weeks with such an injury, you call the 'stache! Or Big Sal Fasano, to be precise.
The Sal-Man, who was signed by Toronto in the offseason, had been tearing it up with the Jays' AAA team in Syracuse, where he was hitting .297 with four home runs through 11 games. His call-up gives the team a bad-ass, veteran presence behind the plate, where he'll likely split duties with Jason Phillips.
"We like Zaunie because he has the offensive potential of doing what he's done here in the past," GM J.P. Ricciardi said. "But he was off to a tough start. Not that there's ever a good time, but having Fasano here just gives us a little more comfort."
Yep. Comfort. Oh, and only the coolest flippin' moustache in all of freakin' Major League Baseball.
Sal's Pals rejoice! Your time has come. Again.
