Former San Francisco Giants first baseman and Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda was arrested by California Highway Patrol on Tuesday afternoon. The 69-year-old Cepeda was pulled over for doing 83 in a 65mph zone when the CHP officer noticed a marijuana smell in the vehicle. The officer called for a K-9 unit, and the officers found marijuana, a bindle containing a white substance believed to be either methamphetamine or cocaine, and a syringe, [Sgt. Wulf] Corrington said.Cepeda posted a $10,000 bond and promised to appear in court. Believe it or not, this is not Orlando's first brush with the law because of drugs. Back in '75 he spent 10 months after being convicted for smuggling marijuana. He is believed to be the inspiration for Nate Newton. OK, not really. But Cepeda proves that just because you're old doesn't mean you can't party.Cepeda was cooperative during the stop and showed no signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time, authorities said. He was booked at Solano County Jail on suspicion of speeding, possession of marijuana while driving, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

this is kinda sad and kinda tight at the same time.
orlanda was at my bar mitzvah years ago (my family befriended him while my dad was at Giants fantasy camp) and became a good friend of the family...as much as a hall of fame baseball player can be.
so it's good to see he can still party. not so good that his partying might be in the clink.

You people need to get a clue Olando is not using drugs. He recently had a visitor to his home that is a known drug user. He was there to visit his family. He is the person that should be arrested for hiding his drugs in Orlando's car. Hopefully Orlando will not stand silent and say who this is.

You all need to back down. I am closer to this story than the rest of you, being that I actually know the Cepeda family, and I can assure you that this whole story is inaccurate. The real facts will come to light in the coming days, and then all of this bashing should hopefully be put to rest.

Ok. Maybe if "it looks like a duck, or quacks like a duck, that it really may be a Chicken?" This is what I think: A guest hid the weed in the car and would light-up in the car. Cepeda smelled the weed, got a contact high while taking it to the carwash? Didn't know his car was being used to stash the weed?

No, the '75 incident was for real. The man is now 69 years old, and is a health nut these days. He has more than paid his dues throughout his life, and again I can tell you - none of the stuff was his. PERIOD. So all of you can say what you want, bashing one of the all-time greatest. And the person who made the comparison to Barry Bonds is way off base (no pun intended). Bonds is a product of modern pharmaceuticals; Cepeda was the product of growing up poor in Puerto Rico, dreaming of a better life - one that was made possible through hard work and dedication to his craft.

I have known Orlando Cepeda since I was a child in St. Louis in 1967 when he was MVP. I don't believe he is guilty for a minute! Isn't someone innocent until proven guilty? Give this incredible man his day in court to defend himself!

Orlando will be vindicated. He is an extraordinary individual - a wonderful, kindhearted, loving family man, a devout Buddhist and dear friend. I have known him since 1958. I was 9 years old when my father became one of his best friends. He would take me and my friends to games at Candlestick or give the kids at my school a thrill when he would come to pick me up. I know for a fact that he is very much into being healthy, eating properly, taking vitamin supplements seriously. This is an awful media witchhunt - they need to back the hell off and support this man rather than condemn him without knowing the facts.

Good to see old people can still party? What society do you live in? The "60's generation" spans the ages of about 55 to 75. You think we forgot how to party?

There has really been any proff that Bonds took steroids other than what he stated, Taking them unknowlingly". I guess we have to believe that information and is innocent until proven guilty. His activities today show he is capable of hitting homeruns without any substances. Lets see what the future holds for the baseball slugger
