I really can't blame Jim Leyland for these comments. I'm sure he got asked by more than a few reporters about Daisuke Matsuzaka and what he thinks of the rookie's pitching prowess, etc., etc., etc., yadda, yadda, yadda. That can get real annoying after sometime I'm sure. Maybe Leyland had enough and decided to go off a bit.Anyways, here's what he said:
"I don't give a (expletive) about him," Leyland said. "I'm not getting into all that. I could give a (expletive) less. It's another pitcher. We're playing Boston. Obviously, he's an outstanding pitcher. He's a major league pitcher. And that's who we're facing."If you're scoring at home, Leyland said these comments before tonight's tilt with the Red Sox. Dice-K ended up throwing a complete game in Boston's 7-1 win against the Tigers. The Red Sox now hold a comfortable 8 1/2 game lead in the AL East, their biggest cushion in 12 seasons.
Sorry, Jim. Go smoke a pack of Marlboros to calm down or something, buddy..

Jim is ticked off that the Red Sox got Dice K and the Detroit Tigers didn't or he is just mad that his rookie pitcher in the Minnesota game bombed in his debut on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.

As a Red Sox fan, I think Jim Leyland is a great manager -- and Detroit's success shows it. Jim just did not want to get caught up in all the hype. After last eve's Sox win over the Tigers, Leyland stated he was very impressed with Dice-K 's pitching performance. Leyland had to like that Dice-K threw a complete 9 inning game -- just like the good old days that Jim typifies.

I think it's kind of rude to just assume that every other person in MLB spends any time at all thinking about another team's personnel. Dice K is big news in Boston, and NY (since they bid on him too) No one else cares. As a Red Sox fan, I cringe when the media tries to make this a baseball story, rather than a Red Sox story, which is all it is.

The MEDIA is like a bunch of jeckels. They just PICK at you until you give up a morsel of "NEWS", so then they RUN with it and make it into a BIG HEADLINE.

Gino,
Judging by the Red Sox cheers in every park they visit (including Yankee Stadium) the number of "red blooded Americans" who hate the Sox must be declining!

Jim Leyland was a fair minor league manager. He is a POOR major league manager. J. Fred Muggs, (or even George Steinbrenner) could have won the American League pennant in 2006. ANY person with limited baseball knowledge could have won with the team Leyland had. He's simply piss-poor as a manager and has the personality of damp wash rag.
