Back in March, we told you about Lastings Milledge's foray into the rap game. He is the president of Soul-Ja Boi Records as well as the manager of what appears to be the label's only artist -- Manny D. Well, on Soul-Ja Boi Records' Web site at the moment, you can hear
Anyways, as you can well imagine, the Mets aren't too pleased.
The Mets statement said, "We disapprove of the content, language and message of this recording, which does not represent the views of the New York Mets." GM Omar Minaya later added that he was "looking into it."Well, at least we know no one in the New York Mets organization is all about finding a woman who is "lady in the streets but freaky up in the sheets."
Here are my thoughts on this: there is, in fact, a conduct clause in players' contracts. Milledge, with this song, has probably violated that to a certain extent. He is at fault. But what I will not do is stand on a throne from up high and lash out about how immature and immoral Lastings Milledge is.
And, why is that?
Because Jay Greenberg of the NY Post has already done that for you, everybody! (The song uses the same word as Don Imus did! The Mets' regrets would seem more sincere if they traded or suspended him, so the organization is clear they won't stand for type of stuff!) So, you know, if you're looking for that line of thought, you can follow the above link. I wouldn't recommend it, though.

Lastings Milledge Would Like To Rock Your Body

Comments (Page 1 of 1)
Listen, I have not liked this kid from day one. This latest crap only helps to cement my feelings that he does not belong on a class organization like the Mets, nor does he belong in baseball! The kid is 100% ghetto! Trade him for some AA pitcher.
By the Mets doing very little shows that there is a huge double standard when it comes to how one culture is dealt with over another. Imus was fired for saying something less offensive than what this idiot did and Imus got fired. Milledge is going to probably keep his job with the team and also release the CD....
I dont see where this is right at all....
Lastings needs to do his best on the field . . . where his rap is not all that well.
I think this whole situation has been blown out of proportion. 1st. Milledge is young and immature He is going to make mistakes Most kids his age do So stop comparing him to Don Imus Someone in the Mets organization needs to sit him down and have a talk with him
First of all, I am beginning to join the ranks of those who have serious doubts as to whether Milledge is worth the Mets' trouble from a purely baseball perspective. That being said, in response to the first comment posted claiming that "this kid is 100% ghetto!" I'm afraid I need to ask you to more specifically define your terms. "Ghetto" is an ambiguous word at best and in some contexts, as it seems possible is the case here, (although it is impossible to actually tell for sure, hence the request for further clarification) could be perceived as just as offensive as the lyrics to "Bend Ya Knees." Furthermore, in regards to the posting drawing the comparison to Don Imus, I say this: If you honestly can not recognize the difference between a 66 year old white man calling a SPECIFIC, EXISTANT group of 18-22 year old black women "nappy-headed hoes" on a nationally syndicated radio show at a time when they should be celebrating a tremendous accomplishment, and a 22 year old black man using, in the verse of a rap song, language that has, sadly, become the industry standard, well... then i just wasted a minute or two typing nonmonosyllabically.
"IMUS WAS FIRED for saying something less offensive than what this IDIOT did AND IMUS GOT FIRED."
I just wanted to point out the irony of such a redundant statement that refers to an IDIOT who, as lame as his rhymes may be, can apparently construct a sentence better than the author.
Uh, Parx, while you're correcting others,
did you mean "Existent" in your earlier post?
Those who live in glass houses ...
Where are Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson in all of this?
