Jason Giambi Admits He Did 'Stuff', Wants MLB to Apologize

Back in December of 2004, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that former Oakland A's MVP first baseman, and current New York Yankees DH, Jason Giambi, told a federal grand jury that he used steroids and HGH. As a result, Giambi felt compelled to apologize in a news conference prior to the 2005 season, but he never specifically said what he was apologizing for. On Wednesday however, Giambi told USA Today that he did "stuff" and that baseball should have apologized for the steroid controversy it created.
"I was wrong for doing that stuff," Giambi told USA TODAY on Wednesday before playing the Chicago White Sox. "What we should have done a long time ago was stand up - players, ownership, everybody - and said: 'We made a mistake.'

"We should have apologized back then and made sure we had a rule in place and gone forward. ... Steroids and all of that was a part of history. But it was a topic that everybody wanted to avoid. Nobody wanted to talk about it."

Look, Jason Giambi may be just as guilty as anyone else -- gaining fame and glory from his use of illegal performance enhancing drugs, but at least he's not turning his back to the issue. Rather, Giambi is looking the issue straight in the face, forcing baseball to rethink the way it has handled things. So while Bud Selig continues to play the ignorance game, at least you have Jason Giambi who's wise enough to realize an apology is needed. And as fans, I think it's safe to say that we deserve one.
