When the Orioles fired Sam Perlozzo, it became quickly apparent they had their eyes on former Marlins skipper and current Yankees broadcaster Joe Girardi to take over. A contingent of O's officials, including the newly hired president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail, interviewed Girardi on Tuesday, and while their meeting didn't end with a contract offer, they are negotiating today. From the Baltimore Sun: The Orioles are currently negotiating with Joe Girardi to become their new manager, two baseball sources confirmed this afternoon. This throws a potential curve ball to the Yankees, whom many people regarded as a potential successor to Joe Torre once Torre's contract expired at the end of this season. But bench coach Don Mattingly is also considered to be in the mix for that position, so it's understandable if Girardi didn't want to gamble with his future by passing on the O's job.
"There is ongoing communication with Baltimore," said Steve Mandel, the agent for Girardi. "There is no done deal, but the dialogue is continuing."

Joe Girardi was a decent manager in Florida and didn't deserve to lose his job. That makes me wonder why he'd want to coach the lowly Orioles when he could possibly be a frontrunner for the Cubs or Yankees.

As a fan of baseball I for one don't want to see Barry Bonds become the record ho,der of the most HR's in Baseball. But it seems that the Commish has no respect for the record holders whom played for nearly no money and loved the game.If he had any balls at all he would suspend or ban Bonds for life.We all know he was a user of stroids, and yet we have a player who should be allowed to be elected to the hall of fame because of his days on the feild as a player is banned because he wanted to bet with a bookie in Pete Rose.
I for one will never respect Mr Selig because he is not taking his job serious enough,Do us all a favor and resign your post and allow a real man to assume the postion.

Get your head out of your ass, Joe, this blog has nothing to do with Bonds and the HR record. Also, just for the record, Bonds couldn't care less about your dumb ass or your skewed take on his circumstances.

Girardi would need to feel confident that the club really does want to improve.
Get rid of some of the dead weight.
35 year old players who can't hit their weight with a couple years left on their contracts do not make for the future.
Pitchers who could be productive for other clubs are being wasted. Your farm system is a joke. Get someone in their that can draft and sign talent. It might take five years but it will payoff.
Don't BS your fans, both of them. They are not stupid, they know it would take a miracle season to beat the Yanks and Sox.
Find better players in the high school ranks, draft and sign. Because they have already had too much exposure, the college layers cost more in the long run because you have to compete with the big money teams to sign them when they come out.
An 18 year old that can hit .500 at the High school or junior college level, with physical tools and a good attitude is ideal. Like Russel Martin for instance, the only person that knew he would eventuall be an All Star catcher five years ago was him.
Sign players under 30 as free agents, their best years are ahead of them.
