I thought we were at a point in the 21st century where gays and lesbians were accepted as being no different than anyone else. I guess
Tim Hardaway proved this differently. And so has an El Cajon-based Christian ministry, which is
complaining about Pride Night at Petco Park. The group promotion is scheduled to occur the same night children ages 14 & under will be receiving a cap as a giveaway, which has angered the ministry:
Set Free Ministries will make its point by walking out on the 42 concession jobs its participants fill. The recovery program run by Southern Baptist missionaries also plans to pass out fliers about Pride Night to families entering Petco Park that day.
"We're concerned about Christian parents and other parents who do not want to have to answer at a ballgame why 'Adam and Steve' are doing what they are doing," said Pastor J.D. Loveland, development director.
The Padres have responded by indicating their tolerance towards all fans:
A Padres spokesman said the team welcomes all fans – gay, religious, butcher, baker or candlestick maker – in the name of boosting attendance.
...
"It's simply a group sale. A lot of people are taking and running with it under the misconception that we're taking a political stand and endorsing a lifestyle or a set of values," said George Stieren, Padres director of business public relations.
The 42 workers will be foregoing around $1,600 that would otherwise go to the ministry. The Padres have also said that they receive hate mail from anti-gay groups all the time complaining about the presence of the groups at the park. Like I said, I thought this being the 21st century, that we were past this point. Sadly, I guess we're not.

How can you be so sad about people reacting with vile and hatred towards gays?
You are no different. Read over your "articles" and how you play to the public passion as you participate in fueling the hatred for an athlete you have singled out.
Hatred, ignorance, and judgmentalism are an integral, everlasting part of our society.
Just look in the mirror.

Amazing, isn't it. Homosexuals can stand up, whine, and complain about the mean old Christians, but according to most of you, Christians cannot stand up for what they believe.
I have some VERY GOOD news for you who are homosexual and those who freely support homosexuality - Soon, us mean old Christians who take the Bible seriously and believe homosexuality is sinful, won't be around anymore and when you're all wondering what happend. . . just a thought - but you might want to pick up a Bible and read it. And you might ask around about what is the "Rapture?"
The Bible speaks clearly about homosexuality being sin, in fact God specifically condemns homosexuality. Why? I think because of all sinners, homosexuals are the most arrogant and are proud of their rebellion against God. You don't see liars or thieves or murderers going around bragging about what they're doing or trying to get children to join them.
Somehow, during the last 20 years or so, wrong has become right and right has become wrong. Those of us who read and study the Bible know why. . . do you?

Whether your religious, biased, gay, normal or hetero. or whatever, I still would not want that lifestyle flaunted in me and my daughters face at a ball game. It was bad enough trying to explain to her why two men were holding hands and kissing in public on a weekend in Palm Springs!

Raider Nation, you need to re-read your Scripture. Preferably in the original language, since Scripture's references to homosexuality are strangely incomplete (the only real reference is to male-male couplings, leaving lesbians out, for some reason). Of course, I don't know why I'm attempting to engage someone who thinks the Rapture is coming (and soon!) in rational conversation, but there you go.
And dave bean, holding hands and kissing isn't flaunting, unless you're some sort of actual Puritan. If you're walking around in Palm Springs, or really anywhere in Southern California, your daughter ought to get used to seeing that, and you should try to live in this century and explain things to her rationally, instead of trying to live in the century before the last one and suppress everything.

Who cares who sleeps with who? I'd rather see gays making out in the stands than bible thumpers protesting something and judging everybody.

Gays/Straight/Lesbian/Believers/Non-Believers, everyone...
"One day every knee will bow, and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord"
As a Christian, I am the first to admit that many Christians are hypocritical (or just plain human) but we are as passionate about our beliefs and convictions as the next guy. The bible clearly states that homosexuality is a sin in both the old and new testament, and quite honestly we are concerned for the state of our Country. I know that if we turn our back on God, He will turn His back on us - and honestly - that should strike fear in the hearts of everyone. I believe God loves us all, but when we neglect His word - why should He continue to bless us as a nation? I do agree that this should not be promoted at a baseball game - but I would appreciate it if they are allowed to have "Pride Night" then Christians should be allowed to have "Faith Night". However - as a Nation - we are responsible for our actions before the Lord, and by accepting this type of behavior because it is "the 21 century", is like saying "we don't need God anymore". 2 Chronicles 24:20 says, "This is what God says: 'Why do you disobey the LORD's commands? You will not prosper. Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has forsaken you.' "
My prayer for our Country is that we will seek out God's will for our Nation. May we be a country that fears the Lord and worship's Him above all others.

Dear Matt & Rider,
Where to begin! All the way up here in this godless, heathen wasteland known as Canada, where our budget is balanced, our healthcare is socialized and our terrorist alert level is non-existant.
Seriously, God has really cranked up the hating us since we allowed our gays to wed (see above). And we just keep asking for more- last week, we had a gay pride parade which brought 1 million tourists into Toronto. And the scary thing? Nobody cared. I mean, sure, some comments on the Globe and Mail message board's weren't overly positive, and I'm sure the National Post dredged up one columnist to express a contrarian view, but you get the point.
I guess you need to relax, is all. I mean, it's just one baseball game, right? And the Padres? It seems you've already surrendered California, New York and Vermont to the lefties, so this must be a losing battle here. What's the point of looking like the stereotype that most of the rest of the world has of Americans if it's not even for the sake of something you can win? That's just foolish.
But please, keep up the good work. Seriously, there's nothing worse than potentially turning into Canada.
God Bless,
Mike

Matt and Raider Fanatic: "The bible clearly states that homosexuality is a sin in both the old and new testament". WHERE does the New Testament "clearly" state this? I think you'll find that the New Testament much more forcefully speaks against divorce. How about a constitutional amendment banning marriage for those who have been divorced? And what about "Judge not lest ye be judged"? Or "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"?

Since our gay brothers are long on decoration (no stereotype intended) and our lesbian sisters knowledeable about sports (good switch hitters, nice jump shot, etc.), they would actually improve the ambience of the average stadium. Plus, they know how to party.

Dave Bean, if you are wondering how to explain two men kissing, perhaps here's an personal story written by a woman named Patti:
My father and I were watching an old Rock Hudson and Doris Day movie. At the moment when Hudson and Doris Day kissed, I said to my father, "That looks weird." Curious, he asked me to identify exactly what was weird about a man and woman kissing, since I'd certainly seen such a thing before. All I knew was that something about this particular man and woman was, to me, strange. My father gently explained that Mr. Hudson didn't really have a lot of experience kissing women; in fact, he would much prefer to be kissing a man. This was said in the same tone that would be used if he had been telling me about people with different colored eyes, and I accepted without question that this whole kissing thing wasn't reserved just for men and women.
That woman was Patti Davis and that father was Rock Hudson's good friend Ronald Reagan. I think it would be hard to find a better example of how to explain this to your daughter than that set by the President.

The real issue for me is Petco's disregard for family values. Just like TV stations put mature subject matter on after children go to bed, a decent society protects its children until they are old enough to have the wisdom to make their own choices.
I find it offensive and surprising that on a night when children are being targeted to come to Petco Park, Petco has decided to invite gays to flaunt their sexuality. I would be just as upset if Petco had invited prostitutes to flaunt their ways on the night children were invited.
I had planned to bring my cousin's 6 kids but I will not attend and in fact this has definitely altered my view about Petco as a company. I don't believe in shopping with companies that don't respect children's rights. Petco obviously does not care about family values or a child's rights to enjoy an innocent childhood.
How sad that gays scream and yell to impose their values on society but when families explain their point-of-view, gays taunt and ridcule them. Guess I'll be shopping at PetSmart from now on. S. Joyce

I don't really care about who's gay and who's straight, but the Pads should think about concurrent promotions. Maybe Young-Person-Give-Away-Hat-Night and Gay Night should be on different days. And does Gay Night really bring that many people in? Maybe the San Diego LaCross team has Lesbo Night...
Gays are not victims of some vast Christian scheme; they've just figured out that they can be a special interest group. Get over yourselves! No-one cares who you screw!
And some Cannuck is proud of his racist frozen wasteland? Socialized medicine is a fraud! If your system is so great, why are Detroit and Buffalo ER's crowded with Quebes and Onts? Why do you call your Indians "prairie N-words?" Why do you get your surgery here?
If Canada was worth a crap, we would have invaded it years ago.

Walking out on the 42 concession jobs is stupid. Have you been to a game, the people working the concession are so slow who will tell if they are working or walking. Everyone should just get along and don't take a book that has been re written too many times so literally. Is it 2007 or 1907??

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
BLESSED ARE THE MEEK,
for they shall possess the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the MERCIFUL,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the PURE OF HEART,
for they shall see God.
BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS,
for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
you want everyone to be a christian, but you hate and treat the very people you want to change with bitterness and rage.
the attitudes displayed on this post are certainly not going to win anyone over to the christians side.

I am HORRIBLY offended by those of you who would assume that YOUR values are better for MY children!. That YOU would tell ME that I need to raise my children by YOUR standards is absolutely irreprehensible. I love my children and don't want to raise them YOUR way! After all, you don't want me to make sure that your children are raised by MY standards, right?
BACK THE HELL OFF AND IF YOU DON'T WANT IT, DON'T BUY IT!

I CANT BELIEVE THAT CHRISTIANS CAN SAY THAT HOMOSEXUALITY AND MURDER IS THE SAME KIND OF SIN. THE ONLY THING GAY PEOPLE EVER DID WAS LOVE A PERSON OF THE SAME GENDER. AND THATS WHAT CHRISTIANITY BELIEVES IS A SIN. I JUST WANT YOU TO REALLY THINK ABOUT THAT AND SEE IF IT MAKES SENSE TO YOU. THEY ARE PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU. THEY ARE MOTHERS AND FATHERS AND THEY HAVE JOBS AND FAMILIES. THEY ARE CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF SOCIETY. IT DOESNT REALLY MATTER TO ME WHETHER OR A PERSON IS GAY OR STRAIGHT AS LONG AS THEY ARE A GOOD, NICE, CARING PERSON. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR MOTHER OR FATHER OR BROTHER OR BEST FRIEND TOLD YOU THEY WERE GAY. THEY WOULD BE THE SAME PERSON THAT YOU KNEW BEFORE THAT, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE CHANGED A BIT. WOULD YOU STILL LOVE THEM THE SAME? I JUST THINK ANYBODY WHO SAYS BEING GAY IS A SIN IS AN IGNORANT PERSON WHO NEEDS TO HAVE A MIND OF THERE OWN AND STOP BELIEVEING EVERYTHING THE CHURCH TELLS YOU.
