La Russa: 'Blogs Are Things That Are Fun'

A few weeks back, we told you about Felix Hernandez and Mariners pitching coach Rafael Chavez heeding the advice of a blogger over at USS Mariner. Essentially, USS Mariner implored Chavez to instruct Hernandez to stop throwing so many fastballs in the first inning. It worked.

Well, Keegan Hamilton of the Riverfront Times reports that when Cards manager Tony La Russa was alerted to this fact, he had a less than enthusiastic approach.

Informed of Hernandez's abrupt turnaround and the pitcher's willingness to tip his hat to a fan blog, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa responds with skepticism. "If that's true, then the [Mariners] pitching coach isn't doing his job," says La Russa. "I think blogs are things that are fun, and I love that people are interested in the game. But I don't take 'em seriously."

A few things here:

A) Blogs are fun, Tony. You are right. B) I respect La Russa's opinion. After all, he's sort of known as the master tinkerer, so I doubt he's going to be reaching out for advice from other resources, especially ones on the Wild Wild Web. I mean, who are we to question La Russa not subbing in Albert Pujols for Aaron Rowand in the All-Star game?*

*We are smart to question that. Because that was just dumb. Really. Really. Dumb.
