Like a lovestruck kid at the highschool dance, Manny Ramirez spent the better part of the Red Sox' recent Cleveland visit exchanging notes and gifts with Indians first baseman Ryan Garko.
The two met in May when the Indians visited Boston. Reportedly, it was a match made in heaven; Ramirez is Garko's favorite player, and Manny... well, the guy would pretty much befriend a tree if the spirit moved him. Earlier this week, the two were re-acquainted at the Jake, and the Plain-Dealer's Indians Chatter blog takes it from here:
Clubhouse attendant Frank Mancini was busy the past few days facilitating gift exchanges between Indians first baseman Ryan Garko and Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez.
When Garko asked for a pair of Manny's custom-made batting gloves, Ramirez instructed Mancini to "give him whatever you want."
Mancini took two pair - one used, one unused - back to Garko.
When Mancini gave Ramirez two of Garko's bats, Manny was disappointed to see neither featured a signature. Garko was stunned that Ramirez, an 11-time All-Star, would want them signed by a still-unproven player. Garko, of course, signed.
Apparently all this grab-ass is good for Manny. During his short stay in Cleveland, he went 7-for-14, belting the third longest home run in the history of Jacobs Field -- an estimated 481 feet.

The press simply hate Manny because he refuses to talk to them. They use to take everything he said to them out of context so he decided not to boycot the press. So like Jerry Rice who was one of the best all time players for the Red Sox, they have raged a personal war aginst him. They will never have anything good to say about Manny so long as he refuses to bow down to the (gods). To this day Rice is still not in the hall of fame.As far as I am concerned Manny is worth every pennie that he is paid.

Sheila, I had no idea Jerry Rice played for the Red Sox! I remember when he played for the 49ers and the Raiders in a game called FOOTBALL... Don't hold your breath waiting for him to get into the BASEBALL Hall of Fame. LMAO

You don't remember Jerry Rice's short stint with the sox from 1998-1999? He hit .423 with 56 HR, 181 RBI, and 12 touchdowns. Definitely a HOF candidate in my opinion.
