On Deck: Get A Move On, Barry

On Deck is FanHouse's look at the day's most intriguing matchups

San Francisco Giants (43-57) vs. Florida Marlins (48-55)-ESPN 10:15PM Est.

Seriously, Barry, this is getting old. Yes, I'm enjoying all the banter between you and Bob Costas as much as everybody else, but I'm getting tired of waiting. I'm an impatient man, Barry. I'm getting tired of waiting for you to hit a couple more home runs. I mean, you've hit 753 of them in your career, why the hell is it so hard to hit three more? Do you just like all the attention? Are you afraid that once you break the record nobody will care about you anymore? What is it, man!? You're going to be facing some guy named Rick Vanden Hurk today, and I think Vanden Hurk is Dutch for "batting practice fastball." If you can't hit at least two home runs off of this guy tonight, you should probably just retire now and forget the record. You don't want to disappoint Bob Dupuy do you? He's such a sweet man!

St. Louis Cardinals (46-52) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (56-46)-8:10PM Est.

This is the last stand for the defending champions. Before they started this current seven game homestand against the Cubs and Brewers, I'm sure Walt Jocketty felt that these seven games would determine what he would do come Tuesday. Well, so far the Cardinals have lost two of three to the Cubs and start a four game series with the Brewers tonight. If they don't win at least three of the four, I think it's safe to say the Cardinals are finished in 2007. The good news is that the Brewers aren't playing that well right now. Seriously, first place teams should not be losing three of four to the team with the worst record in baseball, and that's what just happened to Milwaukee in Cincinnati. They've lost five of their last seven games and have seen their lead over the Cubs shrink to 2 games.

Cleveland Indians (59-43) vs. Minnesota Twins (51-50)-7:05PM Est.

Much like the Cardinals, the Twins are about to make their last stand. The Twins have a better record than the Cardinals, but the task in front of them appears significantly more difficult to travel. If the Twins can't win this series against the Indians, the trades will begin in Minnesota. Everybody from Torii Hunter, Luis Castillo, and even Joe Nathan could be playing their last games as a Minnesota Twin if they don't win these games. The Indians meanwhile just made a minor pick up with Kenny Lofton, and are still right behind the Tigers in the AL Central race. Paul Byrd gets the start for the Tribe, and he'll be going against the one they call Boof.
