On Deck is FanHouse's look at the day's most intriguing matchups
San Francisco Giants (48-62) vs. Washington Nationals (51-61)-ESPN2 10:15PM Est.
It may be a bit unfair of me to demand that Barry Bonds hits a home run tonight so that we can all move on with our lives, but I don't care. I'm sick of waiting. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything more exciting than watching two bad baseball teams play each other, but I have my limits. Tonight Barry will be facing Mike Bacsik, yes, that Mike Bacsik. It's a reunion five years in the making as Bonds has only had three at bats in his career against Bacsik and they all took place back in 2002 when Bacsik was with the Mets. In those three at bats Bonds was held hitless, and was hit by a pitch. That means he's due. Please, Barry, hit the home run tonight. Round the bases in front of all your fans. Hug your son at home plate. High five your teammates. Kiss your wife and daughters. Hell, sacrifice a virgin at home plate. Just hit the damn home run.
Toronto Blue Jays (56-55) vs. New York Yankees (62-50)-7:07PM Est.
Am I the only one around here who liked the Yankees better when they sucked? I mean, we've already seen the Yankees win. It's an old story. Unfortunately the Yankees aren't trying to make a good story, they're just trying to make the playoffs and could get a step closer today. Now that they've gotten that whole beef between A-Rod and the Blue Jays settled, they can continue focusing on the Red Sox and the AL Wild Card. Roger Clemens takes the money mound tonight for the Yankees, and I'm sure he'll be looking to improve on his last performance. Against the White Sox last week, Clemens lasted only 1.2 innings as the Sox put up 8 runs in the second inning. Maybe a return to Canada where the Rocket won those Cy Youngs will help rejuvenate the old man. Josh Towers goes for the Blue Jays.
Chicago White Sox (52-59) vs. Cleveland Indians (63-49)-8:11PM Est.
The White Sox are going to win the AL Central!! Okay, I'm drunk and that's a lie. Still, that doesn't mean the White Sox aren't going to have a say in who will win the division. They just finished a three-game sweep of Detroit over the weekend that knocked the Tigers out of first, and now they'll be looking to do the same to the struggling Indians. The Tribe was able to get a win last night thanks to Paul Byrd, but the offense has been in a mighty slump over their last nine games. Thankfully they'll get to face John Danks who has gone 0-2 with a 6.28 ERA in his last two starts. Jake Westbrook goes for Cleveland, and he's coming off his best start of the season. Of course, considering it was also his first win in three months, it wouldn't really take much. Westbrook has started against the Sox twice this season and is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA. Also, if you happen to have Ryan Garko on any of your fantasy teams, start him tonight. This season Garko is hitting .520 in 25 at bats against the White Sox.
