Since I just brought up the latest fine Gary Sheffield will have to pay for opening his mouth, it only seems fitting that we review one of the things Sheffield said that he didn't get fined for. At least I don't think Gary was fined for it, to be honest, it's kind of hard to keep track. I don't think Gary knows for sure.Last month Sheffield publicly stated that Yankees manager Joe Torre is a racist. He said if you didn't believe him, you could just ask Tony Womack and Kenny Lofton. So a couple of reporters did ask Kenny Lofton, and Lofton told them that Sheffield was right.
Now Lofton wants you to know that Sheffield was right but he wasn't right. Make sense?
Lofton was quoted by an Associated Press reporter as saying, "All I can say is, Sheffield knows what he's talking about; that's all I'm going to say," but Lofton said yesterday his quote was misrepresented, saying the question he was asked related specifically to being called out by the manager in meetings. So now we know for a fact that Joe Torre is not a racist, but a suckist. Joe just doesn't want players who suck to be on his team, and I don't think we should stand for it. This is America, Mr. Torre. In America we all get an equal opportunity whether we suck or not.
"They're trying to say it's racism? That's a word I don't even bring up," said Lofton, who played for Torre in 2004. "I didn't say that, and that's something I won't say."
"Was I treated differently? Yeah," Lofton said. "I got treated differently and always wondered why. Maybe (it was because) I was the new guy, maybe I can't play and he didn't want to put me on the field. I don't know. Maybe I (stank) to him and he didn't want a guy who (stinks) on his team."
I suck at writing, but FanHouse lets me do it because Jamie Mottram believes in America. Of course, at the same time, you sent Kyle Farnsworth out to the mound many a time, so maybe you aren't a suckist after all. But wait, Kyle Farnsworth is white. So is it okay to suck as long as you're white, Mr. Torre? Kenny Lofton sucks, and he's on the bench. Kyle Farnsworth sucks and he gets to play.
Wow, maybe Sheffield was right after all. I'm so confused.

The New York Yankees policy is to win games. If a player doesn't deliver the goods in New York they get rid of the player not the field manager under George Steinbrenner's new rules. Kenny Lofton just did not fit the team not his race.

Gary Sheffield is just one of the many jerks in MLB. Joe Torre is a player's manager; they all love him. His only prejudice is having bad players and troublemakers on his team. His record over the last 11 years speaks for itself; he is a sure Hall of Famer, and No. 6 will be retired as soon as he leaves.

Joe Torre doesn't play players who suck?? WHAT?? hmmm...lets see. Kevin Brown seems to come to mind. Tom Gordon...that was a joke. Didn't David Justice and Jose Canseco come out of retirement for a year then retire again? Jeff Weaver hurt my head to watch. Then there was the Drew Henson experiment...was he QB or an outfielder?? Who could ever forget Armando Benietez...talk about huge sucking action!! Tony Clark, Ruben Sierra, Mike Myers and the biggest of all suck jobs ..Carl Pavano!!!

Players like Lofton and Sheffield bounce around from one team to another, dragging their baggage and their selfish attitudes with them. So- they are good at hitting a ball with a big stick. What else have they contributed to society? ZILCH.

Gary Sheffield is bipolar/manic depressive. If you're not familiar with this, is people who act like they have road rage all the time. Yankee fans should be familiar with this as the "bleacher creatures" in right field are this way. George Steinbrenner, before he mellowed out, was this way. Roger Clemens was this way. Billy Martin was this way. George Costanza of Seinfeld is this way. He easily gets excited and starts screaming over nothing. The thing for them to do is calm down and take a cold drink of water to hydrate themselves. You notice that other countries have trouble at soccer stadiums with manic depressives who riot and trample over each other while panicking. Why can't reporters see this. Scott Olsen of the Marlins got tasered by police after being cantakerous after driving drunk. Former Dolphins linebacker Fred Martin tried to bite police and also got tasered. Both are bipolar/manic depressive. Don't forget Sheffield swatted at a bipolar fan in Boston a couple of years ago. The worst situation you can have is two bipolars going after each other. It's almost like anti-matter colliding. If Sheffield was still with the Yankees and had another outburst, GM Brian Cashman should taser him. Torre played with Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Curt Flood, and is not racist.

#1. I heard the interview and Gary Sheffield DID NOT say Joe Torre was a racist. Although, if a manager is treating players differently based on race, that's basically what it is.
#2. Gary Sheffield DID NOT STINK. So, Fanhouse, your comment about Joe Torre not liking players based on performance doesn't apply to Sheffield.

For the record, I am by no means defending Gary Sheffield. But, Fanhouse, you need to get your facts straight and you need to stop drawing the wrong conclusions.
Also, for those that haven't seen/heard the interview, here is the audio:
