Minor League Spotlight: Jeff Samardzija Has a Sweet Web Site

Minor League Spotlight is the MLB FanHouse's look into baseball's minor leagues. But you probably figured that out already.

A cursory search for updated Jeff Samardzija news (these are the things I do in my free time) yielded a surprising, and interesting, top Google result: Samardzija has a really, really sophisticated web site.

Visitors are welcomed to the site by a semi-dramatic, slickly produced video showing Samardzija's relocation from South Bend to Wrigley Field. Judging by the journey shown, Samardzija is an alien who came to Wrigley from outer space, not from within train-traveling distance on Lake Michigan's south shore. Then again, regional Amtrak isn't the most compelling footage for a web site (apparently, neither is the fact that Jeff has yet to actually arrive at Wrigley), so we'll forgive the inaccuracies for now.

From there, the site gets pretty average, with a bio, a space for fan mail, and so on ... but the next gem is the blog Samardzija's been keeping up regularly. It actually provides news about the player, and it's not completely boring, unlike ... cough ... some player blogs I can think of.

So, all in all, a revelation. Struggling minor league pitcher Jeff Samardzija: surprisingly web savvy. Who knew?
