Not content with hosting his own show on MSNBC and appearing as part of NBC's ensemble for Sunday Night Football,
Keith Olbermann still has his eyes on another job. From
Sports Business Daily's one-on-one interview with Olbermann (via
SbB):
Q: Is there any aspect of broadcasting you haven't tried that you would like to?
Olbermann: I've always wanted to be play-by-play voice for the New York Yankees. That was my original intent in this business. If that opportunity ever arose down the road -- I don't expect it to -- but I always thought that at some point I might just toss all this stuff out the window and say, "You know, I'm going to go do the Durham Bulls games or something for a season on radio."
Tread lightly,
John Sterling, tread lightly. I don't actually see this happening, but when Sterling does eventually step down, you know the Yankees will at least consider going after a big name. Olbermann may be a bit too polarizing simply because of his (very public) politics, though he makes a good point elsewhere in the article that he makes a distinct effort to keep his personal views out of play when he's doing a sports broadcast.

ANYBODY would be better than the twits who now broadcast Yankee baseball. Radio/TV-- they have assembled (with few exceptions) a gaggle of incompetents.. Kay, Leiter, Susie girl, don't speak unless it's pre-approved....

I'd love to see him replace Michael Kay, effective immediately. I've never met one person who likes Kay or thinks that he does a good job. I think taking Sterling's job is a bit of a long shot since he won't be giving up that job anytime soon.

What a smug, uninformed, conceited, self-important prig. Oh, you're talking about the Yankees. On second thought, perfect fit.

Why would a MBL Team want to hire a political personality that would be an insult to at least 50% of the team's fans?

Why would any team want to hire a politically oriented person who would offend at least half of the fans?

...and he's dickless. Awhile ago, we went through the newsroom shouting; "Seig Heil!" An Olberman, shouting Seig Heil, to his New York audience in between innings. Precious.

Everything at the YES network is done by "DESIGN". Olberman will quit after one season.

He won't go a week without ranting about his political leanings. His view of the world might pass in New York, but is far too socialist for the rest of the country including the Yankee players. Left field good; right field bad - he just won't be able to call a straight game. Sorry.

I have been a Yankee fan for 60 years. If they put that clown in as an announcer I can guarantee you that I will find a new team. I can't stand to either see or hear dumbo.

He is a jerk. Get some baseball people to announce the Yanks. He left ESPN years ago to do news and his political comments. Screw him. Matt Verscursion (sp?) voice of the Padres and sometimes Fox game of the week is an excellent baseball man. Not some political pundit like Keith blabbermouth Oberman

Olberman can't keep a steady job. What is it exactly that he does for a living?? Kay talks way too much and throws in unimportant stats. He's too caught up with himself. Leiter whispers and sounds like he just woke up. I shut the volume off when they're on. But I can't put the radio on because Susie is there. I can't win. Give me Singleton, Girardi and Murcer as my announcers. They are fun and informative together!

As a life long Yankee fan living in exile, I got XM radio to listen to the games. Since I can get every team, I am embarassed by the poor quality of the Yankee broadcast. It's the New York Yankees for God's sake! We don't need the stupid gimmicks "A-bomb" "Don't ya know" The aaaaaaa Yankees win (like it's a surprise)etc, etc, ad nauseum. And Suzyn? Forget it. If not Olberman, at least lets get a professional team.

Mr. Olberman has flunked ESPN, flunked what he did after leaving ESPN, flunked MSNBC, and is a worthless piece of crap. If you want to hire someone for a lot of money who doesn't know crap, hire me for a lot less.
