After the Red Sox beat the Twins tonight at Fenway Park, reducing their magic number for taking the AL East to one game, a few thousand fans stuck around to watch the Yankees take on the Orioles on the jumbotron.
Those who stayed didn't leave disappointed; the Orioles, down by 3 in the ninth, pulled a Lazarus, tying the game before winning it in the tenth, and setting off an AL East-clinching celebration on the field and in the stands at Fenway.
It's the first time the Sox have won the division since 1995, but there's still a small bit of drama to be played out this weekend, as the Sox are neck-in-neck with the Cleveland Indians for the best record in the American League, which would give them home field advantage for the playoffs.
As I type this, they're still tossing beer, quaffing champagne and playing grab-ass with the fans at Fenway Park. But the next couple weeks will show us whether this team can conjure as much post-season magic as the 2004 model.

Just like I predicted that the Red Sox would win the AL East title. Now if the Red Sox win the World Series title this year it will be a miracle.

Reds Fan here..before you say anthing about that I'll just say refer to 1975. Don't get your hopes up to high Red Sox Nation. The Angels are tough and will knock your team out in the first round. The whole team can go rest with Clay and his tired shoulder.

Dear Jake:
The 1975 Sox and Reds played a great WS. The Reds were loaded with HOF players and favored to win and even mangaged to get a hand from Larry Barnett along the way.
Your team hasn't mattered in over 15 years. Likely won't for at least that long again.

Rin,
Oh..that really hurts..."your team hasn't mattered in 15 years" nice comeback. I was brought up to believe it's not winning that counts, but how you play the game. I could insert a Bill Belicheat joke in here, but will let it slide. Sports teams (pro, college, high school, etc) should represent more than just winning. It's sad when fans and parents of kids participating in athletics let winning go to their heads. By the way...the Reds are the oldest franchise in the Major Leagues so they always have and will matter for that reason alone.

I don't think you can call the Red Sox chokers anymore after coming back down 3-0 with 3 outs to go in 2004, and now this.

I have always joked that Yankee fans rout for their teams by saying, "Your team SUCKS!" I don't like it when anyone says that about anyone, including Red Sox fans about the yankees. Why do people have to invade blogs and dis the other team? Geez, is your life so miserable that you need to spend time disrespecting others?
