So you know how earlier today there were those "Joe Torre to Los Angeles" rumors floating around that you probably looked at and figured, "That's gotta be crap, the Dodgers just committed to Grady Little," like I did? Turns out where there's smoke, there's fire. Peter Abraham is now reporting that the the Dodgers are going to fire Little and hire Torre as their skipper, bringing Don Mattingly along with him as his bench coach. My first thought is that this is a really low blow to Grady Little and a pretty classless move by the Dodgers. Right after the season ended, Frank McCourt committed to him for the 2008 season. Now that someone better is available, they're sending him packing after every team, except the lead-footed Pirates, with an open manager's job has filled the position. I mean, I'd rather have Joe Torre manage my team, too, but it's not like Torre being available wasn't a possibility on October 1st, because we all know it was.
My second thought is that this means that the Dodgers are going to get in on the A-Rod sweepstakes, right? It always seemed to me like A-Rod and Torre got along pretty well in New York. Transporting the coaching staff out there has to be a move made with one eye on bringing him out to Los Angeles, doesn't it? Maybe I'm just reading too much into things.

As a devoted but at times frustrated Yankees' fan,
I have 2 questions- actually 3:
1. Will the Dodgers pay Torre $7 Million a year?
Of course, not.
2. Will the Dodgers pay Ass-Rod 1/4 billion? No.
And, the third question: Would you rather play in NY or in Chevez ravine? I don't think so.

Hey Joe, as in the Joe who wrote the first BLOG entry, you don't have to spare letters like you are TEXT MESSAGING. I read your entry twice, then towards the end of the second time, it dawned on me, why bother. But for furture reference, we aren't your friend so don't abbreviate so much...makes life a little easier so we only have to read the message once...maybe twice if it is good.

We will see how good of a manager he is without front line players. This is a guy that doesn't bunt, hit and run and he always leaves his veteran pitchers in toooo long. Yes, Joe is a first class guy and his players respect him, however, he is just an average skipper on the field.

If Torre goes to the Dodgers and takes Mattingly with him, won't that be convenient for Donnie's little boy, Preston, who is currently floundering in the Dodgers organization? Just put him in the starting line up with A-Rod!

OMG,can you ever picture Donnie Baseball, (I'm sick of hearing that name) in another uniform??
Although it would be nice the three of them in LA, Mattingly, should not stay a bench coach now,he should wait for another managerial job and make his dream come true.

I don't think the Botox would want him although he is the best player BECAUSE he is a controller. he will control the team, the record breaking, he is only out for himself, not to mention the salaries, and the main reason is they have already won 2 championships in 4 years without him?????
Why ruin the magic with a troublemaker?

Joe Torre doesn't fit the position! I saw his profile on millionaire dating site WealthyRomance.com. He will be busy with dating new ppl. So he doesnt have much time managing his work!

well if you are a Yankees fan like myself you will not like the rumor I heard..
Pettite will follow Torre, but do not know about MO
They are all nuts to follow Joe and give up there life as a Yank, including Posada.
This will be a long winter..

A few more Dereks and a few less A-Rods and maybe we can win again. As for Joe: We will miss you, but Billy you weren't.
Petite, and the over the hill gang can be replaced with names like Chamberlin, Kennedy, Tyler, Hughes and the son of an Oakland catcher for DH.
