While on the YES Network, and calling Yankees games, Michael Kay has generally always had kind things to say about former Yankees, and current Dodgers manager, Joe Torre. Well, Torre is no longer employed by the Yankees, so I guess that means Kay's decided it's time to let his true feelings out.Since the Yankees season has ended, Kay has been pretty soft on the topic of Alex Rodriguez, while he's been outwardly critical of Joe Torre. So what's the deal? Why is Rodriguez getting the free pass, when what's he's done is a larger "Eff you" to the Yankees than anything Torre's done? That's what one caller wanted to know when he asked Kay the question on Kay's radio show on ESPN 1050.
Kay, was not amused.
"There are things about Joe Torre, if I wanted to come out and say, would show how cold and calculated he really is," Kay fumed. "... Joe Torre is for Joe Torre. ... The graveyard of Yankees coaches is loaded with bones of coaches Joe Torre did nothing about."Yes, Joe Torre is all about Joe Torre while Alex Rodriguez clearly cares about nothing else but other people. Which is why A-Rod felt the need to announce he was opting out of his contract during the World Series, and then told the Yankees if they wanted to keep him it would cost $350 million.

Joe Torre won 4 world series and appeared in two others. One of the ones he lost was to a better team and the other had plenty of talent and great pitching. Postseason every year.
Yankee fans who booed him are idiots. Michael Kay is the epitomy of the smug NY white man. Here's to seeing the Yankees not win for another few years.

This is for John and anyone else who thinks like Mr. Kay. I first met Torre in 1956, when we were kids. He was very sincere even then. I moved away from N.Y. with my parents to Calif. and lost touch with him. Met him and Popeye again in 1996 at Legends field and he really hasn't changed. If, Kay has any info that he feels that the public should know then why doesn't he produce it instead of running his mouth behind Torre's back? To me that is nothing but being a coward. Kay should stay in the studio and let Murcer, Flaherty and Singleton and O'Neill do the broadcasting. They are much better without Kay.

Maybe Torre is a dick. If so, I don't blame Kay for speaking out.
And why criticize Torre but not A-Rod? Well, seems to me like there is no shortage of people criticizing A-Rod. It's almost the opposite with Torre.
Try not to see things so one-sidely. 'k?

This is typical Yankee stuff. Kay has fired the first shot, but I am sure there will be plenty more to come during the next year. http://valentinesviews.blogspot.com/2007/11/kay-begins-torre-bashing.html

I've been a Yankee fan since the days of Mel Allan. I listened to both radio and TV broadcasts frequently during those years. There was never an announcer worst then Michael Kay. He is the worst. Although his baseball knowledge has improved, he is still awful. He constantly reverts to interviewing techniques during the broadcast. It has become tedious, I mute the sound and watch the game.
I can remember one day a right handed batter pulled and ball foul into the left field stands and he tells us. The ball is "slicing" into the seat. You know this guy never played an inning of baseball in his life. He claims he visited the stadium often as a younster. I have my doubts. Ten and eleven year olds know more about the game then he does.
He is a fortunate guy to be the voice of the Yankees. He doesn't deserve it. I cringe during "Old Timers Day" and he announces the greats. You get the impression he thinks he one of them.
"Tell me Al, what are you thinking right now? They have the bases loaded, no outs."
The truth is Al is thinking. He's thinking and wondering if the money he's earning is worth the embarassment he goes through each time Kay asks one of his silly questions
The games I enjoy the most are those when Kay has taken one of his contractual off days. I wish the YES network would anounce the games he will not be doing at the beginning of the season. Sorry,
I know I am rambling on. I just can't stand the guy.

Kay is an ass and I wish the Yankees would get a new announcer cause he sucks! I put my TV on mute just so I don't have to hear his annoying voice and ridiculous comments. I am a hardcore Yankee fan but can we please get someone like Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez on the mic.....now that's entertainment along with great knowledge and love of the sport! Will miss you Joe!!!!

You would have been better off just reporting what Kay said and leaving it at that, no one needed you throwing your dumbass take on the matter in at the end. It's like anything else, A-Rod isn't as flawed and many who are jealous of him for any number of reasons would make him out to be and Torre is not the saint that many would prefer to think of him as. Sure, Kay's comments are less than spot on, but so is most of what people have to say about anything as far as that goes.

Torre did NOTHING when he was the Mets manager. He finished in last the first three years and second to last the next two. Torre didn't do that much special, as he deals with all-stars at almost every position on his team.
Dig up Billy Martin, wipe him off, and throw a cap on him. Manager problem solved!
And I can only hope no one signs AROD. HIS SALARY IS INSANE, and a ceiling needs to be net someday.

Can someone explain, what am I missing. I've noted on YES games, McKay would have long winded critical remarks about Torre sometimes, and also noted that other journalist had passed on that McKay and others were used to drive points home when Steinbrenner would allow something to be "leaked" to the press.....but what am I missing....what is it directly about McKay and Torre or even the comment "The graveyard of Yankees coaches is loaded with bones of coaches Joe Torre did nothing about."
Anyone have the missing puzzle pieces?

Two points: First, as a non-Yankees fan who happens to like baseball and live in New York (and there are lots and lots of us), I've always enjoyed listening to Michael Kay. He's a professional, he's both knowledgeable about the game and curious to learn more (hence his questions to the former baseball players sharing the mike with him), and he's not a shameless Yankees cheerleader, like John Sterling and so many, many other Yankees announcers over the years. Them I put on mute, but not Kay. Second, I have to say that I don't recall his ever criticizing Torre as explicitly as he seems to have here, and I find this disturbing: was he withholding his criticism all this time, and does he feel free to say these things now that Torre's gone? I'd be sorry to learn that this was the case. If there's been discontent with Torre over the years, we should have been told in real time rather than only once the guy is gone.

I'm a die hard Sox fan but have a lot of respect for Joe Torre and a few of the Yankee players. Steinbrenner was wrong for the way he handled Joe as a result of the post season loss to the Indians. As a baseball fan, I'm sorry for the Yankee fans and happy for the Dodger fans. Never heard Michael Kay before so I can't comment on him and his remarks; but you can bet he will write a book down the road. Good luck to Joe in LA; hope he does as great a job there as he did in NY.

Michael Kay is by far, the worst of all time! His name was Michael Cohen, but after his illustrious little league career, he was renamed "K" after his stats were compiled. Maybe backwards "K" would have been more appropriate. He should think about announcing the "Little League World Series" Then he could reflect on baseball, more suited to his experience.

I hope Yankees gets a curse from Joe Torre. 12 years straight playoff appearance was not good enough? OK, you wait and see. Here comes 12 years drought of no postseason. Wow, wouldn’t it be nice to prove that there is justice after all.

To be honest i have yet to hear a baseball announcer (outside of Murcer) that i have actually liked. Sterling, Kay, Buck, McCarver basically resort to tired axioms and sayings. When they do say something original it is either off topic or wrong. The worst two groups though are the Fox and ESPN announcers.

Michael Kay is the worst broadcaster/journalist/commentator what ever hat he wears that day. He makes listening to games on yes the worst experience. He swears he knows everything. If it were not for the yankees success he wouldnt have his radio show or his frequent appearances on espn. Kay is a coward if he felt that way he should have made it public. He had plenty of ways to do it. Yes sure wait for Torre to leave to criticize him. Micheal Kay is a coward and does not deserve to be on the airwaves and on my tv screen.
