Boston.com is reporting that Red Sox centerfielder and trade bait extraordinaire has dropped agent Joe Urbon and signed on with Scott Boras. For Red Sox fans, and probably many front office execs, that's barely a step above being a Yankee.Ellsbury has been named on and off in the potential deal-in-the-works for the Red Sox to acquire Johan Santana. Hometown fans were outraged to hear Ellsbury's name as part of the trade and were lighting up the local sports radio show phone lines to express themselves. After just 33 games in the majors, the Boston court of public opinion has deemed Ellsbury untouchable.
Boras is not held in high regard in the Boston area, thanks to his hardball negotiating techniques with several current and former players. Many people thought Theo Epstein bested him last off-season in pulling off the Daisuke Matsuzaka deal. Perhaps Boras saw this as a chance to strike back. It may be a blessing in disguise for the Red Sox, as the Twins will not want a Scott Boras client on their roster when the big pay day comes in a few years.
No doubt, there is much more to come on the Santana deal. Stay tuned.

I think Boston is setting everyone up for a fall on this Ellsbury guy. Punch and Judy hitter they are dangling as trade bait. Great White Hope in America's most bigoted City. They act like he's Mickey Mantle, but probably closer to Juan Pierre. All in hopes of getting Santana.....buyer beware.

I keep hearing these bizarre numbers from Red Sox fans. Things like the Yankees not winning in this decade. If you mean decade in what it actually means (last ten years or a period of ten years) then the Yankees have won 3 (98,99,00) and the Sox have won two. If you want to make stupid claims like being the best team of this millennium, then fine that is the same thing as saying the best team in the last 7 years.

I figure I will adress the two idiots by who posted a comment first. Scott M you are a poor, pathetic person, using bigotry in a case where it doesnt even make sense. Congratulations, you just made yourself look like an idiot, though im guessing you probably do that on a daily basis anyways. tobrien28, yea the yankees have won 3 world series in the past ten years, but they havent done anything since the last time they won. losing twice in the world series to teams that they shouldve been able to easily beat. But the big reason why they havent won in the past 4-5 years is because of one man, the sox's current ace in Josh Beckett. And yes the red sox have only one two, but it looks like they will win alot more in the upcoming years. They have a decently young team for the most part, and Theo Epstein has shown to be the smartest general manager in the MLB. I doubt that Jacoby Ellsbury will be traded, though I will admit I am wrong if it does happen. Epstein plays the market better than anybody, only taking an opportunity if it falls on his lap. Why give up more than you should for something you probably don't even need. Notice how he ignored Scott Boras at the meetings after the world series when Alex Rodriguez was a free agent. Yes boston has a high salary, and has made some big signings in order to win, But where they mark themselves better than the Yankees and where the Yankees are trying to copy the Sox on now is creating a mix of a skilled team through free agency, trading, and the farm system, the last one being the point where the Sox have the advantage.
So to finalize things, bigotry has nothing to do with it Scott you moron, and tobrien28, the red sox will be better than the yankees for years to come.

If you think you can predict baseball for a whole season AND the playoffs (which you did by claiming the Red Sox will win many more than the Yankees in the coming years) it is you who is the moron. Should the Yankees get Santana, they will have a ace of their own. The rest of their pitching should be able to match the pitching of the Sox. I wouldn't say the Red Sox are in any better position to win another World Series in the next 10 years than the Yankees.

Scott M, you are a racist. From your comments, I assume you are black, like those other uber racists, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Tell me....if we had a WET (White Entertainment Television) channel or NAAWP (national association for the advancement of white people) would that would make us racist? Think on that while you watch all your young men impregnate your girls and blame anyone who isn't black.

AC - we already have multiple WET channels. Just about every channel out there is comprised of mostly white Americans.
I don't understand why it's important that we not have BET, does it really bother you that much?

Ellsbury came thru solid for the Sox. I would hate to see him leave. No surprise Gagne is going back to Texas. It will be interesting to see how the Yankees fair this season. Really hated to see Torre leave but understandable. It won't be easy filling his shoes. Would like to see Buchholz and Lester back in the Boston lineup as well.

hey tobrien28, theres just a few things i can say that can contradict yours. First off the yankees wont be getting santana, and their pitching sucks anyways except for hughes and chamberlain. Second they dont have the farm team of fielders like the red sox do, and their team now except for a-rod and jeter is full of guys past their prime who will be continuing to get worse, that is unless jason giambi can find another way to take steroids again without almost dying in the process. Should the yankees go after erik bedard or dan haren they will most likely give up melky cabrera, one of their top young fielders. O and the reason the yankees stopped going after santana was because of money, cashman convinced the younger steinbrenners that they shouldnt be spending this much money. So get ready for a yankees team that wont go out and spend 10-20 million on each area of the field they could be weak in.
