While Roger Clemens and his lawyer are busy vehemently denying that Clemens has ever used steroids, Roger's buddy Andy Pettitte has chosen to take a different route. Pettitte has come out and admitted he's used HGH on two seperate occasions.Andy Pettitte used human growth hormone to recover from an elbow injury in 2002, the New York Yankees pitcher said two days after he was cited in the Mitchell Report. What the hell is going on here!? An athlete is not only copping to having done something illegal, he's apologizing for it too? Wow.
Pettitte said he tried HGH on two occasions.
"If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize," Pettitte said Saturday in a statement released by his agent. "I accept responsibility for those two days."
What a refreshing change of events.
What this does make me wonder though is how Clemens feels about Pettitte's admission of taking HGH. Considering the two are close friends and are linked together in both the Mitchell Report and in Jason Grimsley's affidavit, would that make it safe to assume that Clemens used HGH with Pettitte?
What I can tell you is that Pettitte won't face the same scrutiny that Clemens is about to receive and Barry Bonds has faced for years now that he's admitted it and apologized for it. This is a forgiving society we live in, you just have to ask for it if you're planning on getting it.

Andy is obviously a smart man and I give credit for telling the truth. Now he will not have to deal with the question from every sportwriter and television station in the country. He can go about his business of getting ready for the new season. Selig cannot do anything to him as there were no rules in 2002.

I give him credit also. I wondered the other day when a statement from his agent stated he had to talk with the union and his lawyers before issuing a response to the Mitchell report allegations. I had pondered if he was having moral wavering behind confessing to use of some kind of performance enhancing drug/steroid which would add more credence to allegations against best friend Clemens, or deny use, and if true, lying after he had put his faith and Christian beliefs out there in the press. I am glad he has come clean. I think more highly of him of now. I hope others will follow suit if allegations are true about them also.

this just shows where the united states govt. priorities are. they are more worried about baseball
players cheating, using steroid, enhancing drugs, then worrying about the real issues out there.
i think the game was better, before all the rats came out! do you find it funny how the govt, can lie and cheat, but nobody else can!

NDN- You’re right, Vick has apologized. Unfortunately, Vick also lied for months to cover his ass. By all accounts, Vick was arrogant, unremorseful, and completely uncooperative. He acted just like Andy’s buddy Roger is acting right now. All that aside, the crimes are completely different. Vick FINANCED and MASTERMINDED an ILLIGAL DOG FIGHTING RING. Andy took illegal drugs, which by the way Vick has also done, and lied about. Vick is in jail. Andy should be suspended. From reading many of your other ignorant posts I’ve discovered that you really seem to want to perpetuate the idea that the so called “White America” is out to get the black athlete or the black man in general, and I’m sorry but it just isn’t the case. Yes, there are always going to be a few confederate flag waving jerk offs that want to look for any reason to hate anyone that isn’t the same color as them, just like there will always be people like you and your buddy Al Sharpton looking for any reason to play the race card. Personally, I put you all in the same boat. Please just go away.

Brian,
I am not going anywhere. The internet is a public forum. Yes he did all of those things, but as a member of the human race, your refusal to accept his apology does not make you a better person. We do not know what is going on in your life that needs redemption. He apologized and the apology was not accepted. I am not equating steroid/ hgh use. He is going to serve his time in jail, pay his debt to society and you guys still will not accept his apology. What about deer hunting, quail hunting, bear hunting. Everyone was very impressed by the 5 year old that killed an innocent bear. Where is the outrage.. by the way Mike deserves to be punished. Hypocrisy is the problem that I have with you all. Someone on another site had the audacity to say those who have not sinned should not judge Andy Petite, why not the same sentiment for Vick. I have no problems with you equating me to Al Sharpton. You remind me of Rush Limbaugh so that's fine with me. He's a hypocrite too. Have you no one in your life that used marijuana??? Oh, that's just Mike Vick. What about arrogant people in your life?? Have you ever told a lie when you were scared and in trouble or embarrassed?? Of course not, that's only Mike Vick again. You all seem to think that you are on a higher level of humanity than everyone else. You keep believing that and life will show you that you are not.
I think that HGH should be an acceptable form of treatment, especially in the NFL, considering the NFL players seem to have the strangest injuries. If you are going to invest millions on these athletes why not protect that investment by giving them access to whatever is needed to help them return to the field of play. The NFL should sponsor a study and present it's findings to the FDA for approval of HGH as an acceptable form of therapy for injuries.

What's with all the adulation for Pettitte? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was asked to meet with Selig beforehand and explain the circumstances of his drug use, and he declined to do so. Same for big mouth what's his name from the Red Sox. Schilling. They're up to their necks in the "Stop Snitching" drug culture of baseball, the same thing that you decry in hip-hop.

I 100% percent agree. Doctors prescribe it to healthy civilians everyday to promote healing, so why not give it to players who have had such terrible problems (like not being able to walk) later in life due to accumulated injuries?
Pet is kind of a cheater, but he's also a lot smarter than MLB because he knows it's idiocy to put HGH and steroids in the same boat.
That's like putting weed and acid on the same level. Just dumb.

The whole drug thing in baseball is a mess, but I agree, there are a lot worse attrocities going on, including all the perverts and crooks in our own government. Why not send Mitchell to out all the rest of those clowns and also to investigate how our "intelligence" was so bad as to believe Hussein had his massive weapons aimed at us. What a joke. I don't condone using the PED's, but I can understand it. Guys playing at the highest level with a lot of pressure to perfom. We've all done things to rationalize whatever it is we knew wasn't right. I say continue to monitor and test the hell out of everyone from here on out and meter out just punishment for the past (especially for the liars who deny it)and then move on and enjoy the game again...

By the way, if using all this stuff is so terrible and reprehensible, why hasn't there been an outcry about Arnold using it in competitive bodybuilding and to bolster his movie career, then leapfroging to a governorship? I love Arnold, but let's have a little "parity" as the NFL loves, in our critiquing of the stars of sports and the world...

I personally think trying to compare Vick and Pettitte is like comparing apples and oranges. I understand that the forgiveness part is what you are ultimately highlighting...but their crimes are too different to compare for most people. Most of the people in this society (U.S.A.) view dogs as pets and companions. To even compare this to deer, quail hunting etc., and killing dogs for poor performances is stretching it pretty far again...apples and oranges. Pettitte use of something that affected his personal body and theoretically may have affected the outcome of games is a far cry from killing pets, funding dog fighting and setting up a dog fighting business, amongst other things. For the record, Pettitte orginally lied when asked in 2006 about steroids and HGH and his usage. He came clean this time with the report. I do applaud him. I don't have adulation for him. He did something that may not have been illegal, he and others, even in using the HGH did it to get a competetive edge over other players. They all knew it was shady, otherwise they wouldn't have been hiding it from others.
I am sure there are others on that report who have used something, and who will deny useage of PED/steroids to the grave.
I do feel that after Vick does his time he should be allowed as others a chance to work, and if there is someone in the NFL who wants to hire him, I don't have any problems with that...because he will have done his time. By the way, Vick didn't appologize until his 2 codefendents had plea agreements in the works. Apples and Oranges.

Pettitte says "If what I did was an error in judgement on my part, I apologize" and "If I have let down people who care about me, I am sorry..." Why can't he just come out and say "What I did was an error in judgement on my part..." and "I have let down people who care about me..." An apology that begins with the word "if" is barely and apology and it sounds like he's protecting himself against possible legal action.
Also, why did he use McNamee for his HGH injections instead of the official Yankee trainer? He would have had to go to his employer and get them to OK the decision to administer the shots. Everone knew that the use of HGH without a prescription was illegal, so why didn't Andy get a prescription?
