First it was Andy Pettitte admitting to HGH use, then Fernando Vina came clean on-air yesterday. Today, Brian Roberts admits to taking steroids. But, of course, he only tried them once before he ran for the hills."In 2003, when I took one shot of steroids, I immediately realized that this was not what I stood for or anything that I wanted to continue doing. I never used steroids, human growth hormone or any other performance enhancing drugs prior to or since that single incident," he said.I find it somewhat suspect that Roberts claims he only took steroids once, namely because he had 12 career home runs heading into 2005, but matched that entire total by June of the 2005 season. (If you remember, Roberts led the league in batting average for first chunk of that year as well.) But hey, no reason to nit-pick, really. Even if it might be viewed as a weak or half-truth admission, it's an admission nonetheless. We'll never really know the truth; the above observations are just some speculation on my part.
"I can honestly say before God, myself, my family and all of my fans, that steroids or any performance-enhancing drugs have never had any effect on what I have worked so hard to accomplish in the game of baseball."
So hey, any guesses on who's the next player to apologize to their friends and family for their inclusion in the Mitchell report?

I really hate professional sports and athletes nowadays! I wonder if anyone else feels this way? We got thugs and gangsters in the NFL (guys who hang out in strip clubs, get caught up in gun fights etc), wife beaters, non paying child support individuals, and another group of thugs in the NBA. Now we have cheating dope heads in Major League Baseball that have been this for many years! Nice going men! You are blessed to have a lot of talent, then just to make the major leagues and have a career is another blessing. Then you all have to decieve yourselves and the fans by taking this crap (HGH & Steroids)! Nice example all of you give to the young kids who look up to you! Way to go and destroy the game too. You should be proud of yourselves!

Brian Roberts made a mistake several years ago. I am sure that everyone can say that. He admitted it. I know Brian personally and he is a wonderful person. My son looks up to him and I am proud of that. GO Brian...we in Michigan are behind you.

Give me a break. Now that everyones fair haired boys have been brought out of the steroid juice closet and exposed by the Mitchell report a change of wind direction is descending upon us. The lynch mob mentality is apparently reserved for Barry Bonds and other black athletes only. Now everyone is willing to forgive and forget on behalf of guys like Brian Roberts who according to him only took one steroid shot before he realized he wasn't raised that way and gave it up. Sure, the only time I'll confess to having been speeding is the time I got pulled over.

It's amazing that all these baseball players are now coming out of the woodwork to admit they took steroids, but only once. I bet they didn't inhale either...
