It was just pointed out to me that I rarely -- if ever -- am overly one-sided on a topic of debate. For the most part, I can see both sides of an argument and discern a considerable amount of logic from each, even if I only truly agree with one point of contention. But fortheloveofallthatisgoodandholy Roger Clemens has made me think he is incredibly guilty in this whole Mitchell Report mess. After he didn't speak for days, put out a rather odd and rehearsed YouTube video then agreed to do a 60 Minutes interview with uber-fan Mike Wallace, he gives us this from that interview, set to air Sunday:
When asked by Wallace if McNamee had ever injected him with any drugs, Clemens responds: "Lidocaine and B-12. It's for my joints, and B-12 I still take today."OK, Roger. Come on, now. Honestly. If this was truly the case -- which by the way, this was the same excuse Rafael Palmeiro used, we all know how that worked out -- why in the hell would you NOT SAY THIS ON THE DAY THE REPORT CAME OUT. Why would you wait nearly three and a half weeks to state this? It makes no sense. I'm not sure who Clemens' PR adviser is, but they're doing an awful job. (I suspect he does his own PR. This is the only logical conclusion.)
Clemens calls the accusation "ridiculous" and says he "never" used any banned substances.
"Swear?" asks Wallace.
"[I] swear," says Clemens.
Look, I know the statements made by Brian McNamee supposedly wouldn't hold up well in the court of law. And I know Roger Clemens has never tested positive for any banned substance in baseball. But I think it's extremely naive of us to side with Clemens here as intelligent baseball fans. I just can't muster up any benefit of the doubt for this guy.
Sorry, Roger. We deserve much better than this.

Clemens is a user, and will never come clean about his use of any performance enhancing drugs. Just because he is the rocket we are suppose to believe him. Anytime your own trainer tells on you, there is some truth to it. As for Clemens, the truth just aint in him. A Rod is next to have to tell the truth. You can lie to some of the people some of the time, but you cant lie to all of the people, all of the time.

Now we are getting some where for all the defenders of this piece of crap ( one of them a trial by jury, another sworn deposition ? another innocent until proven guilty and so on ) hey hypocrites how about Bonds, Andy, Canseco they can claim the same McNamee, Mitchell even his friend Andy are in a conspiracy to damaged his reputation of been a mercenary ??? NOT being a JUNKIE that's what what he waits until the last minute with a lawyer by his side and confirms but B-12 the same thing that Palmeiro said the only difference is that Palmeiro said that from the get go IMMEDIATE but clemens waits close to 4 weeks after the report was known you figure that one defenders of this poor ?( very rich ) white man falsely accuse YOU HYPOCRITES !

Again with the B12. Who keeps supplying MLB players with tainted B12 shots? Who knew this much injecting was going in the clubhouse. first it was supposed to be flaxseed oil but turned out it wasn't. Funny how this works, own up to the B12 and they will assume the trainer does not know the difference. Since when did trainers get the license to dispense drugs?

If I remember correctly, didn't Ole Rog say about a week ago that the trainer gave him some shots, but did not know what they were? Just take some Advil or Tylenol Arthritis tablets. I take B-12 but they come in a tablet. Give me a break Rog!

Why is it that we automatically assume a person is quilty. In regards to athletes, is it that we are jealous of their accomplishments. I am not a huge fan of Roger Clemens, but until he is proven quilty or confesses, I am going to give him the benefit of doubt. The last I looked , in Amerrica you are INNOVENT until PROVEN quilty. This is the main reason why we fight in Iraq and other foreign ports of the world. To protect this right!

I never assume quilt, Tony. Although Clemens does look squeezably soft, doesn't he?
Seriously though, add it all up. While we don't have an admission from Clemens, we have a number of other clues that make it at least 90% certain that Clemens took PEDs.
And by the way, those same rights you use to hide behind your ignorance are the same rights I use to apply common sense and freedom of thought and expression. So don't tell me what I can and can't think. We're not in a court of law here.

Until Clemens can face a newsman (that is not his friend - newsman should be objective - so I feel this is a low for 60 minutes) and make a live denial - no videotape that can be recorded and rerecorded until his press team feels that his words and body language appear sincere, I can never believe him. I use to root that he would wear a Red Sox cap to the Hall, now I hope he does not. If he is not guilty, he should have just come out and denied it to the local news that same night. Then I would have had more of a shot at believing him. I think I will go rent the movie men of honor and wait for spring training. The future of baseball looks bright, testing for steroids will help keep the sport clean - basball survived the White Sox scandal, it will survive this.

Even though Clemens was 1 game over .500 his last 5 seasons with the Sox. Look at his ERA. 3.02 average those 5 seasons. Clearly the Sox were NOT scoring runs. (add his 6th and he's under 3)ERA IMO is the most underated stat.
That being said. It's been argued the Bonds came in 40lbs heavier from one season to the next. Personally I have not seen any photos to prove this but I have seen photos of the Rocket betweetn his last stint with the Sox and the 2 years with the Jays. No difference. He's bigger now! Am I to believe he's on something now?
I don't particularly care for this man, but someone prove something before condemning him. One word against another isn't proof.

It is not ONE WORD IS TWO one McNamee the other is Andy a close friend ??? innocent until proven guilty no proof and so on and so on you bunch of hypocrites did any body saw oj killing his ex-wife ??? Did you ever heard of circumstantial evidence and in the Mitchell report every body is guilty but not clemens ?? is a joke but this one helps ; A man goes to his home on regular hours and he calls the police telling them that he found his wife death and the reason he explains is that she hit her head in the bathtub and the police ask when did you learn of this tragedy and the man responded LAST NIGHT ! now clemens confirms that yes in fact McNamee injected him with B-12 go figure keep defending this junkie I sense that the reason why you hypocrites are doing that is for another agenda a lot more sinister .

Innocent until proven guilty--yeah ok. But in the legal process the state has the power to subpoena and compel testimony. Mitchell did not have this power and then "lugs" in baseball that refused to talk to Mitchell say "innocent until proven guilty". Pretty ironic. There is adequate proof in the court of public option to "convict" Clemens. What reason does McNamee have to lie? What reason does McNamee have to turn on one of his prime benefactors in the past? None. Why, facing the prospect of a perjury prosecution would he "falsely" accuse one of the games "unimpeachable"icons-Clemens. Wouldn't it be much easier to target someone with out Rogers reputation and bombast? Maybe...unless McNamee is telling the truth, which he is. McNamee had no quota of names to provide to Mitchell and there was no witch hunt for Roger...McNamee was certainly right about Pettite. Roger certainly has been slow in coming back with a response. One might conclude that he is exploring possible vulnerabilities before he weaves a story..he could sue McNamee but then McNamee would have available all sorts of legal discovery tools and Roger would be vulnerable to perjuring himself.Roger certainly doesn't haver to sue..but then he does spend cash on an investigator to uncover dirt on McNamee. The n he claims that these surreptitious injections were merely innocent dispensations of B-12. Something I assume could be done openly in a clubhouse. Yup McNamee's word against Clemens. McNamee who has no motive to throw Clemens under the bus vs. Roger who has every reason to run over McNamee with the bus. I gotta believe McNamee
