George Bush welcomed the Boston Red Sox to his home yesterday -- it's something called the "White House" -- to congratulate them on their World Series victory of '07. As he usually does at these sports celebrations, he cracked a few jokes. (It's sports! It's fun!)One of which involved Daisuke Matsuzaka -- chronicled last night here at FanHouse. Another involved Manny Ramirez, who didn't make the trip yesterday to the White House. Bush had this to say about Manny:
"I love the fact that you've got some of the game's biggest stars. I mean, 'Big Papi,' the guy lights up the screen. He brings a great personality - (applause). I'm sorry his running mate, Manny Ramirez, isn't here. I guess his grandmother died again. (Laughter.) Just kidding. (Laughter.) Tell Manny I didn't mean it."You can watch video of said quote here. If you remember last spring training, it was reported Manny didn't report to spring training because he was with his sick mother, but then reports surfaced he was actually at a car show. (Theo Epstein later cleared this up, saying he wasn't going to a car show and instead attending to family matters.)
On any accord, this probably wasn't in the best taste or choice of words, but hey, the speech writers for Bush have a hard enough time as it is, huh? Sorry, No Photos

It's nice to hear that our country has a President with humor and appreciates baseball than being imprisioned by crazy fanatics that would rather chop American heads off. Mr. President, thanks for taking time defending freedom, humanity and laughter while others capture, murder and hate! Look at the bright side, America has baseball. Play Ball!

Manny? Bush should talk. He's a bigger meathead than Manny ever was. He gives up the grand slam to Bin Laden, and has yet to get him out. His assistants botched the Iraq scouting report, and he predicted victory in the bottom of the second inning - a cardinal sin. And he's set a new national record for errors committed, thanks to Katrina, and a dugout full of other gaffes. Oil prices are as whack as a warm beer at the ballpark, and he's letting China steal all his best players. His front office is a mess. His payroll is out of control...and he has lost the team.
His big league legacy? Forget it. Bush League all the way.
Thanks Mr. President for showing true class. Great choice of words. It kind of reminds me of a similar tone that he displayed to the country on 911. This goes to show how much he thinks before he speaks. Oh well wait a minute he wasnt reading a speech or out of a book to school children.

He has made mistakes (haven't you?) on the biggest stage in the world. What he said was funny and relevant. Manny should be ostrasized by the BSOX nation...oh wait, they cheated in football and the Kennedy's are their political heros...my bad.
