Earl Weaver is a classic, right? But that doesn't mean that he's also not, you know, still alive. I love Tony Kornheiser's bemused expression at Mike Wilbon's gaffe: "I think he's with us." And as Awful Announcing points out, Weaver is only 77 years old, not 88. AA said that Wilbon laughed off the mistake when informed after the show, but I'm guessing Weaver probably had a completely different reaction (that a few dozen f-bombs) were he watching from home. Have u guys heard that he ever appeared on the hot millionaire&celebs dating club S E E K R I C H. C O M ? I heard of it around that site when hooking up with the guys there recently. That sounds amazing, I know.
I doubt Earl was too upset. He probably had a good laugh or two out of that blunder. I believe most of his anger was expelled years ago. He's probably happy someone remembers him.
#1 is probably a guy in the Netherlands with ear hair and sweaty palms... As for the announcer, I expect nothing more of them all. They all stink, and have rotten memories. I think nets like ESPN and MASN should go to sports bars and recruit all new announcers. They sure couldn't do any worse.
Wilbong, Cornholzer, Skip Bayless just to name a few of the idiots that ESPN calls announcers, are nothing more than loudmouthed jackasses. Especially Bayless, who definitely has to bat from the wrong side of the plate. I got three words for these geniuses, "shut your pieholes"!
Hey Mike, #2, I agree with you almost 100% however, I take exception with you referring to him being from the Netherlands and having ear hair, etc. I have a good friend in the Netherlands, who knows more about baseball than Kornheiser, Berman, Buck, AND Theismann ....oh, yeah Theismann is football (hard to tell with some of the things he says :o). (JUST KIDDING Theismann fans!!!! 'Cause I know you're already typing, but, Joe is a friend.)
Dear Mr. Wilbon, Reports of Mr. Weaver's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Mr. Weaver could not have been more vital and gracious, as he signed tens of baseballs in Fort Lauderdale Stadium, while the Oriole's defeated the Minnesota Twins today during Spring Training. He has a certain sparkle, and generously shared it with everyone. I hope he brings good luck to the Oriole's this season. Sincerely, Richard Saunders SPRING TRAINING Ft. Lauderdale
can we in baltimore trade angelos as owner and get weaver instead...lordy i can see it now if weaver was the manager...his fights with our "wannabe seinbrenner" would make his famous fights with palmer look like passionate barroom conversaations...until angelos is gone...i am now part of the redsox nation..or will root for the nationals...
I heard a clip once of Earl once swearing his head off as he slammed a reporter who asked a dumb question. If there was more guys like him maybe reporters wouldn't be such ignorant p%!(ks.
