Remember that poll I mentioned a couple of days ago that described how Democrats tend to think Roger Clemens is guilty and Republicans think he's innocent? Turns out it was on to something. Nearly a month after the Democratic majority staff of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform issued an 18-page memo recommending Clemens be investigated for perjury, the Republican minority staff responded with a freaking 109-page report of their own, in part focused on challenging the credibility of Brian McNamee, Clemens' main accuser. From the AP:
"Did Roger Clemens lie to us?" [Virginia Rep. Tom] Davis said in a release accompanying the report. "Some of the evidence seems to say he did; other information suggests he told the truth," the Virginia Republican said. "It's a far more complicated picture than some may want to believe. Memories fade and recollections differ. That's human nature, not criminal conduct."The report doesn't focus on whether or not Clemens took steroids or HGH but does "question McNamee's versions of events on several points," including interviews with new witnesses from Jose Canseco's infamous 1998 BBQ, etc. That Davis is spearheading this effort shouldn't be surprising -- he's the one that called this whole investigation into Clemens' life "a new form of lynching," which (probably) even made Kelly Tilghman cringe.
Don't get me wrong, I'm firmly in the camp that investigating for potential perjury most definitely is the government's business, but the whole thing devolves into absurdity if the parties involved simply use this as yet another opportunity for political posturing.

Its no surprise that the current group of Republicans is on the wrong page ... again. Defending a liar (the illegal kind) and drug user (personally) and pushing drugs (to his wife) and committing perjury isn't a set of values and actions politicians need to support. It obvious they aren't interested in winnning any elections in the near future. (was a Republican, now a Libertarian)

Now matter what the blowhard nerds on the congressional committee say in his defense, Fat head Rajah lied like a rug before them. Ask Martha Stewart how the committee appreciates liars.
Examine Clemens rambling testimony about playing golf the morning of the famous Canseco home party.(Steroids-are-us)
Clemens produced a receipt for a tee time at 8:58am, then said he could not have been at the party because he was playing golf and the "golf course was not close to Canseco's house."
The party was held in the afternoon with plenty of time for a 4 hour round and then driving to Canseco's house. The committee learned later Canseco's house was located adjacent to one of the fairways on the course where the Lieing Fatboy played golf. Clemens estimate that everyone he lies to is as stupid as he is is infuriating. I hope he rots in prison.

You really gotta watch it when you're commenting on Fanhouse threads like this one. It is ostensibly a sports topic, but it really is a political advocacy thread masquerading as a sports thread.
If you are inclined to write a comment that is pro Republican or in any way challenges the overtly political premise of the topic, your comment will most likely disappear.
If you are inclined to write a comment that bashes republicans or otherwise supports the politics of the premise, then fire away. You will be in the clear.

Kustie- I'm glad somebody else noticed that. I've had many comments disappear or not get posted. They all were in opposition of AOL and/or the writers political beliefs.
