On Deck is FanHouse's look at the day's most intriguing matchups
New York Yankees (0-0) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (0-0) - 7:05PM Est.
The Yankees wanted to kick off the final season at Yankee Stadium yesterday, but ol' Mother Nature wouldn't play along, as she instead chose to try and flood the city of New York on Monday. So that means for Yankees and Blue Jays fans opening day is today, as the two teams try and do it all over again. Aside from the significance of this being the last opening day in Yankee Stadium history, it's also the first time the Yankees will be playing a game at the stadium without Joe Torre in the dugout in 13 years. For the Blue Jays, they've kinda become a darkhorse pick in the AL East this season, and a win tonight against a division powerhouse like the Yankees would be a nice way to start off the season. Both of yesterday's scheduled starters, Chien-Ming Wang and Roy Halladay, will be making the start tonight. Wang will try to put his playoff collapse behind him, but he's not going against a team he's enjoyed much success against. In three starts against Toronto last season, Wang went 0-2 with a 6.35 ERA. Roy Halladay on the other hand is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.77 in his last eight starts against the Bombers, suffering his last loss on September 21st, 2004.
St. Louis Cardinals (0-0) vs. Colorado Rockies (0-0) - 8:15PM Est.
The other game that was postponed yesterday was in St. Louis where the Colorado Rockies were granted a reprieve by Mother Nature. Maybe they aren't kidding when they say they have God on their side. The Cardinals jumped out to a 5-1 lead early on Joe Jeff Francis yesterday, thanks to Rick Ankiel and an Albert Pujols home run, but none of it counted as the rain washed away all the stats. So the two teams get a do-over today, and man, what a pitching matchup. Kip Wells vs. Kyle Lohse. Are we sure this isn't Game 7 of the NLCS? Wells is normally Colorado's long man out of the bullpen, but will make the "emergency" start for the Rockies this evening against the team he went 7-17 for last season.
Minnesota Twins (1-0) vs. Los Angeles Angels (0-1) - 8:10PM Est.
Yesterday was supposed to be about the return of Torii Hunter to his former home, but it was his replacement who stole the show. Carlos Gomez went 2-for-3 on Monday, stole two bases, and scored two runs, one of which turned out to be the game-winning run. Will he be able to carry that success into today's game as well? I don't know, I can't see the future, but I did pick him to win the AL ROY this season, so I know I'm hoping he does. Boof Bonser will get the start for the Twins, and he'll be going against a familiar foe, though one in a new uniform. Jon Garland has started many games in the Metrodome, but they've always been in a White Sox jersey until tonight when he makes his Angels debut. Bonser has struggled against the Angels in his career, and Garland has had trouble with the Twins as well so tonight's game is either going to be a 11-10 slugfest or a 1-0 pitcher's duel. There is no in between.

- Mariners vs. Rangers 10:10PM
