Baseball, not too shockingly, has never had a female general manger. Ever. Even in the 1930's! But Kim Ng, an assistant GM with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been given permission by Ned Colletti to speak to the Seattle Mariners (note: should they actually ask), so sayeth the L.A. Times. As has Logan White (not a female, but also a Dodger employee).
"They're both worthy," Colletti said.I back the no comment on this one as well -- there's no need for starting any sort of media firestorm (a.k.a. getting asked how she felt about being the first female GM in MLB history 1,000 times a day) before actually applying/interviewing for or getting the job. Or before the M's show some reciprocal interest.
Ng is believed to be interested in the Seattle job but declined to comment. White, who played in the Mariners' minor league system and scouted for the team, said he would be interested in discussing the position.
As the Times notes, Ng interviewed with the Dodgers for the job that Colletti eventually received. And there is probably a lengthy process in store for the M's before they permanently replace Bill Bavisi, but if Colletti is making a capable female member of his staff available, I'd be shocked if Seattle did not at least interview her or include her on the short list of candidates.

Ng, got stiffed the first time around with the Dodgers. If she was the Dodgers GM, there is no Pierre, Schmidt, Andruw Jones, or Grady Little. Wish she was the Dodger GM, the Mariners can have Colleti.

My favorite team has already had a female president/CEO; Wendy Selig Prieb. As anyone who knows anything about baseball knows, Wendy's father relinquished 'control' over the Milwaukee Brewers after Bud became 'comish.' Now, Wendy's gone and the Brewers have a contending team.
Why not an Asian woman? We have a number of Asian players in MLB and they're all good or better. Let's face it, Asian people are smarter and more courteous than Americans - and, they have a better work ethic.

I have to agree with Mike.
Kim Ng is a great candidate. All the dodgers erespect her and understand her business like approach with her Old School knowledge. I heard if Jeff Kent has a gripe he goes to Kim so it gets taken care of.
As far as Colletti, I am sure manny Dodger fans wish that he would intereview for the Seatle job, it's a good place for him. I have nigtmares every night wondering who he is scouting from the other teams DL list.
If the Dodgers dont turn it around this year Colletti will be gone anway.
Please stay here Kim, McCourt likes you and will give you the job. Colletti will be Jones' chauffer to the unemployment office.

American Pride: No prejudice here. I'm just telling the truth. Christ, man, I'm from Wisconsin and proud to be a white man who has never married or dated any woman other than a white one.
I served my country and I loved my military days. I had friends of all races and colors. I still do. I'm just being honest. Maybe I should have dated Asian women but the opportunity never arose.
But, back to the subject: I think an Asian woman would make a great GM if she knows baseball well enough. There may be a player in Japan who's laying in the woods, unnoticed, and perhaps the Brewers can get him (or her).
