One of my fondest wishes as a sports fan is that there can one day be a series between the Red Sox and Yankees that doesn't coincide with the beating of a fan of one team or the other. Especially when the beating occurs on the Fourth of July in front of the man's children. Making it all the better, the genius squad that led the beatdown didn't even have any reason to believe that William Nestor, driving his family home from a fireworks display in Falmouth, Massachusetts, was a baseball fan, let alone a Yankee fan. Nestor was beaten with an aluminum bat because his car had New York plates.
"They were yelling, 'Yankees! Yankees!' and 'F - - - New York' " Nestor, 29, said. "When they saw the plates, they came at me.
Nestor is okay, thankfully, and police have arrested one man and charged him with assault. They are looking for his partner in crime."I didn't even know the Yankees and Red Sox were playing" this weekend, added Nestor, who's not a particularly big baseball fan.
At some point it would be awfully nice of Hank Steinbrenner and John Henry to make some kind of joint statement decrying this kind of behavior. While making sure to point out that plenty of people on both sides are prone to acting like idiots, the owners could make it clear that neither the Yankee Universe nor Red Sox Nation they are so fond of welcomes citizens of that sort.

Some people need to get a life. I'm a big yankee fan since early childhood in 1970. The Yankees weren't winning then as they were in the CBS era, known as the "Horace Clarke era." Sure Yankee-Red Sox games have great drama but it's just a game. Yesterday, I was looking at a Brett Gardner bat on eBay for $20. He got the game winning hit against Red Sox closer Jon Papelbon. Later I went back on to eBay and lo and behold, his baseball bat went up to $129. It stated that Gardner got the game winning hit against the BoSox. Imagine that, one hit and his bat went up by $109 dollars. This guy has barely gotten his feet wet and his bat went up by that much.

This is ridiculous. Beating a guy in front of his family because he has New York plates? I’m not too sure about the law, but I hope they get charged with a hate crime.

As much as I'd support a joint statement from Steinbrenner and Henry, it wouldn't make a difference.
A thug is a thug is a thug. And they'll engage in thuggery no matter how much you convince them that such behavior goes against everything Red Sox Nation (tm) stands for.

finacial planner I am a major sox fan I agree with you partially on the beeting in front of family The Part that should not happen what so ever is the beating in the first place. Enough is enough it is total bs I hope they charge this individual with attempted murder. As I say I am a sox fan. Yes I hate the yankees I do nto hate the indivuals on their team. I would be the last person to want any fan or team player of any team hurt. IO say charge the idiot with attempted murdfer a bat is a leathel weapon.
