The D'Backs placed Eric Byrnes on the disabled list with sore hamstrings back in May, and after playing in a handful of games in late June, he's back on the sidelines. He's set for an MRI later this week, but even if the results don't point to surgery, D'Backs GM Josh Byrnes admitted that it's looking like the outfielder might be done for the year. How will the D'Backs fill the hole in their outfield? As if on cue, reporters were quick to ask about Barry Bonds, whom Josh Byrnes refused to deny was a possibility:
"He and maybe a couple of others are sort of sitting out there," Byrnes said. "I think it's a bit of assessing any player's readiness, then knocking somebody out of the lineup, dollars, etc.Sure, the D'Backs could fish for options on the trade market, but that'd obviously require giving something up. If Bonds does return this year, it's going to be with a desperate contender -- and considering the D'Backs are sitting exactly at .500 with the Dodgers just a game behind them in the NL West, there probably aren't many teams more desperate than them.
"I don't want to talk about him specifically but, believe me, we've considered a lot of options. There is sort of no one obvious option right now, but there are a lot of considerations."
I don't even need to begin to tell you the kind of negative PR that Bonds would bring to the team, but he'd also bring an amazing spark to the lineup. Over the last three years, Bonds hit .333/.591/.593 in 27 at-bats (with 16 walks) at Chase Field.

As a die hard MET fan, I would love to see Bonds sign with the Amazins. He could fill in at left field, especially since it seems Alou in not going to be able to play for sometime. All Bonds need is a PH rbi or such as the fans will give him a S.O. Please Omar, sign him NOW !!

IF you want the media circus there, and an over the hill ball player that dosen't know when to call it quits. Then sure. If the D'backs think that he is the answer then they deserve all the trouble.

Barry Bonds is one of the greats. Steroids use hasn't been proven, my god this is America. Innocent until proven, a team that passes on him that has a legit chance for the playoffs is crazy.

Barry has another birthday in 2 weeks, the BIG 44. Even if there were no other issues, he's likely to do what guys do at that age in sports- embarrass themselves. His knees are just about ruined. Barry needs the walks and the home runs. He couldn't outrun a ball thrown by a little leaguer and get to first safe. He was ready for a walker in SF in left field. It was sad to see him make half-hearted attemtps to field a ball out there last year. Sure, if somebody pops one EXACTLY within 4 feet of BB, he can still catch it. If you can put him in a strong line-up where they have to pitch to him, he might be a help, but the other players really don't want a prima donna in the clubhouse. Barry is an arrogant sob and other players all know it. He would sour the hotest club.

It is impossible that in the major leagues no teams have any interest in Barry Bonds !!The Power of ALL these owners to blackball any player and never get questioned about this by our press, is shameful. It's a clear indication that after your usefullness of making money for these owners for countless years, that you have zero power as a player on the field and drawing power in the stands. Not possible !! As a DH Bonds could play another five years easily and a perfect pinch hitter in the National League for sure.

I would watch any team that hired him and so would most Americans. So, why not give him a shot. He only holds the home run record. I wonder how the HOF will explain taking the ball and not the man. I guess much like the teams that won't give him a shot.

Barry Bonds is still one of the top hitters in Baseball, just
look at his stats from 2007
The owners are in colusion in keeping him out of baseball, can you think of a better DH?
It is a crime what they have done to him.

I would like to see The RAYS sign Bond as DH and maybe a right fielder. They have a shot of beating out the Red Soxs and the Yankees, just a hit, or a walk here and there might be just what they need. May help to get people to ball park too.

Perhaps this shutout has humbled him a tad.
Maybe not to the point where hed be like oh thank you! thank you! But the one thing players hate the most is KNOWING the game is or is working on passing them by.
This guy, roids or not, was HOF material beforehand, people forget this, and maybe only Pujols has better plate vision and discipline. I think itd be kind of fun to see Gramps playing with all the whippersnappers in Zona, but thats prolly just me.

They should sign Bonds to a 1 year deal. They have a shot and he still can hit. Anything over a year could be risky unless there was a clause that gives them an out if Bonds is found guilty in the Federal case. Its sad that Clemons has had a free pass with the media compared to Bonds who has been crucified by the media. Bonds was the 1st player ever with 400 homers and 400 stolen bases and now he is a 500/500. Bonds still can swat the Ball and has not been found guilty of anything yet.
