New York City isn't the easiest place in the world to find a place to drink ice cold beers at rock bottom prices. Perhaps that will change if some enterprising entrepreneur steals an idea from Seattle and pegs prices to Richie Sexson's batting average. The erstwhile Mariner first baseman has agreed to join the Yankees and will be in uniform on Saturday at the latest. Despite Sexson's putrid overall numbers, there's reason to think his signing could help the Yankees in the second half. He'll give them another righty bat to throw out when facing southpaws and he still does a very good job against them. He's hitting .344 with a 1066 OPS against lefties this season and should fit well into a Yankee lineup that is overloaded with lefty swingers.
Signing Sexson won't be enough of a salve for a struggling Yankee offense, especially if Hideki Matsui is out for the season, but he's a no risk attempt at a shot in the arm. The Yankees will only have to pay him a pro-rated portion of the minimum salary, approximately $161,000. When you're already spending in the neighborhood of $200 million, it's hard to get your knickers in a twist about that sum.

Brian Cashman what our Yanks need is pitching. Why not pick up Shawn Chacon to use as a fifth starter? I know he's a problem but he pitched with the Yankees a few years ago and should stil have friends on the team. It should give our Yanks a shot in the arm as injured Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy are not ready and are still injured. I looked up Richie Sexon's stats and he has batted in at least 100 RBIs in six of his 12 seasons in the majors. He has hit more than 20 home runs in Seven seasons. By the way, he has been a regular in the majors for seven seasons. He missed most of 2004 with injuries while with the Diamondbacks. I hink he was signed to keep the Red Sox from signing him.

He was aquired for a song, may help out against lefties. No harm done on this one.
If it doesn't work out...oh well!
The Yankees during this off season will have plenty of money freed up.

Brian Cashman will either be Executive Of The Year or the village idiot by having Richie Sexson join the Yankees. Cross your fingers and pray that Richie Sexson will be the missing piece for the Yankees run for the playoffs and beyond.
