While the 2008 All Star Game may be a thing of the past, people have still been talking about things they saw at Yankee Stadium those three days, and most of them have to do with Josh Hamilton. While most of the talk is about the 498 home runs (give or take) that Hamilton hit during the Home Run Derby (How dumb did Justin Morneau feel having to accept that trophy?), there's also a lot of talk about Hamilton's relationship with the legendary Willie Mays. The day after the game there was a lot of talk about the apparent snub of Hamilton by Mays before the game. If you didn't see it, before the player introductions, forty-nine Hall of Famers were announced at their positions. Then, when the players were introduced, they ran out to their spot and shook hands with the legends that stood before them. Just one tiny problem.
When Hamilton ran out to his spot in centerfield, Willie Mays turned away from him and kept on talking to Kosuke Fukudome, who doesn't speak a whole lot of English. This of course started the firestorm that Mays didn't like Hamilton for some reason, but Josh wants us to know that wasn't the case at all.
Hamilton quickly denied any sort of snub, though, and said Mays was simply talking to National League starter Kosuke Fukudome and later greeted Hamilton (visual proof above).Josh then told Willie to let his godson know that he has a ton of unused needles should he need any. Or he just sang along to the Star-Spangled Banner, I don't know, I'm not a lip-reader.
"He leaned over and told me, 'Congratulations,' " said Hamilton, a first-time All-Star. "I told him that I've known who he is for a long time and that I'm a big fan."

Your "unused needle" comment was funny, and the only thing I found uncalled for was the utter lack of a Josh Hamilton "hero to heroin to hero" story. I insist on hearing about his rise/fall/rise and drug battle at least 4 times a day, and I'm finding it difficult to feed my hunger unless the Rangers are on broadcast TV. Incidentally, don't steal my "hero to heroin to hero" line...I came up with that myself while being inundated with an onsalught of coverage for Josh Hamilton, and I find it to be clever and witty.

It wouldn't be the first time that willie (snob) mays snubbed someone. I lived in Cincinnati in the early 1960's and attended many Reds games. Two of the games that I went to were against the San Francisco Giants when willie (snob) mays refused to spend five minutes to sign autographs for maybe 6 kids who waited for what seemed like forever to get his autograph when he was finished with his interview in the dugout after the game. He did this on Friday and Saturday so he didn't have a plane to catch because he still had the Sunday game. It would not have taken him any more than five minutes but he couldn't be bothered on not one but two nights. What a fraud willie (snob I can't be bothered) mays is.

Obviously, you should've gone with the "used needle" angle to satisfy the readers.

The unused needlees comment was unnecessary. It is one thing to make fun of an atheles past problems with drugs or alcohol but making a smart aleck comment like that about Willie Mays godson is worse than Reverend Jackson smart aleck comment about Senator Obama's family jewels.

You guys are unbelievable. Don't ANY of you know who Willie Mays' godson is? It's Barry Bonds. I thought this was a widely known fact. The fact that nearly ALL of you feel slighted, racially wounded, or astonished at what was meant to be a joke does not surprise me in the least- your ignorance clearly stretches beyond trivia regarding family relationships, and extends into your dopey comments. Either educate yourselves before you make insipid and ill-informed comments, or keep your nonsense to yourselves altogether.

King Great, do you honestly think you are the only smart one to figure out he was talking about Bonds. WOW you know your Baseball, idiot! The comment was uncalled for especially when Josh Hamilton has overcome a drug problem. The editorial is about Willie snobbing him not about Barry Bonds. You should get off Barry's case since 90% of Baseball was using the roid, it was a fair playing field. Clemens was on the Roid throwing, he was on the Roid hitting it. Now do me a favor go and stick a needle up yur ass and read baseabll books, because yu were not the only one to know he was talking about Barry.

Eddie, do us both a favor, and reread the comments left by your peers (specifically comments #3 and 7), and THEN come to grips with the reality of what I wrote. I never suggested that I was the only one that knew Barry Bonds was his godson- I merely stated that the people who were leaving comments before you poked your nose in clearly did NOT know that fact, and were evidently incapable of getting the joke. If you're finding it difficult to grasp that, then I shall lump you in with the rest of the illiterate and holier-than-thou fools that post here. Keep up the good work cupcake, and keep reaching for that rainbow.
