Cubs Fans Continue to Prove Their Intelligence

Sometimes, it's difficult not to be a self-loathing Cubs fan. So much of the fan base seems drunk, borderline racist, or just plain stupid, and sometimes all three. It takes a conscious effort to remind oneself that most Cubs fans are normal, upstanding citizens, and that they don't deserve the negative stereotypes the few idiots earn them.

And then three Cubs fans do the following (via The Sporting Blog), and the only thing you can do is throw your arms in the air. Oh, and sigh. Sighing helps too.
McHenry County authorities say three Chicago Cubs fans face felony battery charges after allegedly beating a Chicago White Sox fan so badly he lost his right eye. The men are accused of beating 32-year-old Robert Steele of Gurnee during a 2-year-old girl's Sesame Street-themed birthday party. Police said Monday the men were drinking alcohol at the July 19th party and taunting Steele. They say Steele was kicked in the head and his nose was broken. He stayed several days at an Elgin hospital.
You read that bold correctly: A 2-year-old's Sesame Street-themed birthday party was interrupted by violence between Cubs and Sox fans, who presumably were arguing over something really important, like whether the Sox or the Cubs were better at playing baseball. If there's ever a reason to punch a person, baseball is definitely it. If there's ever a time, it's at a 2-year-old's birthday party. Totally.
