Jeff Kent is the type of guy who is primarily remembered -- I think, despite his likely HOF status -- for being the less surly teammate of Barry Bonds. Or a one time great fantasy baseball second baseman. Talk about a legacy. That surliness has usually lent him an aspect of being relatively free of great one liners (although certain car washing incidents do come to mind). However, and I may be a touch late to the party on this one, he did drop some pretty sweet potent quotables on retiring, family and his social life to T.J. Simers recently.
Most probably he will retire and wait five years for the call from the Hall of Fame, but rather than pull a Brett Favre, he says he will absolutely be sure before saying so.Wait. Ignoring the veiled pot-shots at Favre ... Jeff Kent is a non-porn loving, emotional type of guy? Really. Really?
"There are too many crying guys on TV who wake up later saying, 'What did I just do?'" he says. "I'm a man of my word, and if I say I'm going to do something, then I'm going to do it."
[...] "I don't hang out with the guys -- never have," he says. "I don't go out drinking, look at porn, have a girlfriend or get divorced -- so I'm selfish.
"I've given everything I've got to this game, sacrificing my body, time with my family and a number of other things," he says, and while grouchy at times, he admits he will probably cry when it's over for good. "The game has meant everything to me."
I'll admit, I never saw that coming. It's like finding out that the head football coach of a major university known for his toughness and propensity for building offensive lines prefers Mamma Mia! to Dark Knight. Shock and awe, friends. Shock and awe.

Jeff Kent can do whatever he wants. His mustache grants him that ability. And, by the way, he doesn't watch porn because he acts in porn. You only find decent facial hair on guys like him, Ron Jeremy and Joey Silvera. SERIOUSLY, he is the consummate professional, though a little crass and unfriendly. Despite the fact that his average is down this year, he still has a good supporting cast and is great on defense. He can mail it in now that they have Manny cleaning up everybody else's mess. One more thing...Good for Manny. I always despised him, but felt sorry for him lately. I'm glad he's crushing the ball, he just needs a freakin haircut.
