There's no more simple way to put it than by saying that Nolan Ryan articulates very well what I think everyone believes is killing/did kill Roger Clemens' reputation. (Via SbB):
Nolan Ryan appeared today on Dan Patrick's syndicated radio show and made it clear that he in no way supports the PED-denials of fellow Texan Roger Clemens (audio): "It's just a shame that Roger has gotten caught up in this situation and he took the stance that he did and that so many things have come out ... that have cast a bad light on his career.Exactly.
If you look at what happened with some of the other players (who used PEDs), they stepped up and said 'hey, I did it, I knew it was wrong,' and they asked for forgiveness and have gone on about their business. I think it's just unfortunate Roger took the position that he did and that so much has come out about it."
Andy Pettitte made one simple, semi-humble admission to using steroids, took his single lash of the belt, cried a little and then shut his mouth and played baseball. No one cares about his mistakes anymore.
Roger Clemens refused to acknowledge that he ever used steroids, thus alienating everyone and whipping up a maelstrom of malcontent by the general public, and no one cares about him, much believes believes the fella, anymore.
Pettitte is marked as a "human being" who made a mistake, Clemens is marred as a "filthy cheater". Lesson, as always: admitting you cheated is better than trying to cover up your cheating through a series of interwoven lies.
And Rog, if you think we somehow won't stop caring ... well look no further than Barry L. Bonds, my spiky gel haired, orange Hummer driving friend.

Nolan is exactly right, if rogo's ego wasnt the size OF Texas, then maybe he would be able to say "I did it, it was wrong, & I aint gonna do it again" But no, rogo had to go pop his big mouth off, & say "I didnt do it, I didnt do it" & it only made him look dumber & dumber. Just goes to show, what happens when you don't own up to your own actions.

Nolan Ryan is right. If Roger Clemens had just confessed that he took steroids and admit it was wrong he would have been forgiven but he took the high road he has a ruined reputation for life. In the words of Gazoo "Tell the truth and your troubles won't be doubled."

The truth has nothing to do with it It's who the media and public likes..Jason G gives a news conference where he apologizes and wont admit why he is apologizing and he gets forgave..Petty admits it but lies about how many times and why and things are still coming out about his use and its all forgave..so yes he should have came clean esp knowing what was out there but lets not believe all's well that ends well..People would pick and choose based on who they liked

I taught in high school for 43 years. One of the most important parts of my job was to be a proper role model. In spite of Charles Barkley said, athletes who are well known are even bigger and more influential role models. Roger Clemens may have been one of the best pitchers of all time but, I would hate to think that any kid would use him as a role model.
