On Deck: 'I'm Not Retired'

On Deck is FanHouse's look at the day's most intriguing baseball matchups.

Los Angeles Dodgers (58-58) at San Francisco Giants (49-66) 4:05 PM ET

Barry Bonds returned to the Giants last night. Somewhat.

He made a surprise appearance at a celebration of the Giants best outfielders of the last 50 seasons as part of their anniversary season in San Francisco. He made a Schwarzenegger type "I'll be back" proclamation when he stood at the podium, pointed at Joe Torre and said: "You heard me Torre, I beat you before and I can beat you again. I haven't retired. Thank you."

Could Barry Bonds make another surprise appearance at the ballpark today? As a pinch hitter? Somehow, I doubt Torre is worried with the Giants eight and a half behind them.

Atlanta Braves (55-62) at Arizona Diamondbacks (59-58) - 4:10 PM ET

Or maybe Bonds will decide to show up in Arizona and jump up nine games in the standings and beat Torre from a closer range. Hey, the Diamondbacks will need some offensive help (not that they haven't up until this point) with Orlando Hudson suffering a broken wrist and likely to miss the rest of the season. Bonds as a Diamondback? That might worry Torre a little bit.

New York Yankees (63-53) at L.A. Angels of Anaheim (72-43) - 3:35 PM ET

Or how about this for insanity: Bonds as a Yankee? Hey, Hank Steinbrenner brought him up to the crack Yankee staff only a short time ago, so why not give Bonds a shot to beat Torre in the World Series? And then, let's team him up with Manny Ramirez so Bonds can stick it to Torre and Manny can stick it to Boston at the same time? Oh yeah, that's right ... the whole "slowest outfield in the world" thing. That and after Saturday's debacle from the Yankees bullpen, maybe Barry Bonds isn't quite what the Yankees need.

Well, thanks for joining me in "Barry Bonds Fantasy Land." Hope you had fun, and remember to enjoy the latest round of baseless Bonds rumors. Enjoy the games.
