If you've been following the presidential election closely, you know that the Democratic National Convention begins today in Denver. You might have even heard that the theme is going to be "unity," as the party attempts to quell the anger of the Hillary Clinton supporters who feel that their voices haven't been heard. As hard as Obama is working to unite his party, he apparently has no problem drawing a line between the baseball fans in his home town of Chicago. In an interview airing tonight, he tells ESPN: [Stuart] Scott: "If the Cubs and the White Sox both make it to the World Series?
Obama: "I would be going."
Scott: "Who would you root for?
Obama: "Oh, that's easy. White Sox. I'm not one of these fair weather fans. You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there. People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball. Southside."
I imagine that this will go over far better than Rudy Giuliani's attempt to play to voters by wearing a Red Sox cap in Boston last fall and telling people that he was a fan of the "American League." Vacillating on team allegiance is a certain way to make unnecessary enemies at the polls in the fall. And besides, "People that are annoyed by Cubs fans" is a pretty large demographic. City unity my ...

Can we leave race out of a conversation once. One time. Please!
Besides I think its a bit of a light issue to even be concerned about stereotyping and generalizations, he said they have fun at a ball game call the ACLU.
That's not irony, I know you think it is but you might want to check a dictionary for the actual meaning of one of the most often misused words in the language.

Senator Obama forgot something:
"At least (insert Comiskey/US Cellular/The Cell/Alcatraz here) doesn't smell like urine."
By the way, these comments may not help, but can't hurt, his chances of winning St. Louis area votes. Very important, since Missouri is a swing state.

He said what I would expect any self respecting South Sider would say. Obama, is the man and we need a real baseball fan in the White House. Remember George Bush traded Sammy Sosa, and that's unforgiveabls.

He spoke no ill will of the Cubs team, just the park and the atmosphere, Wrigley field is worlds largest beer garden. Cubs don't need to win to make money, just sell the 'experience'.
It wasn't until White Sox went to the world series, the Cubs organization has been dealing with a potential hangover if they don't show some urgency. Hence the reason why the tension is higher than ever when these two teams meet.

Oh my gosh. There are so many haters out there. If another republican is elected into office, then we will be facing the same bullshit we are right now. It will be another 4 years of crap. For me, Obama being a White Sox fan is just more reason for me to like him. Did you forget that they live in Chicago??? And, Obama moved to Chicago to work as a community organizer for three years from June 1985 to May 1988 as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP),on Chicago's South Side. His wife grew up on the south side as well!! What is wrong with showing their support in a baseball team. Really people, that should be the least of our concerns. Wow...finally, someone not falling into the bandwagon fan base of a Cubs fan. bo hoo

I will not be voting for Obama, but I do admire him as a fellow Sox fan who hates the Cubs. I am not talking about those "Sox fans" who say: "Well, it wouldn't be so bad if the Cubs win the Series this year; you know, I mean, well, you know, at least they are a Chicago team, and we are all in this together, right?
UMM... Wrongo, Cubs-fan guy: We Sox fans, the real ones,
we HATE the Cubs. We love this year in history: 1908. We know how much you hated us when we won the Series in 1918 and in 2005. And then, to add insult to injury, the Cardinals, your arch rivals who have won so often during your squalor, won in 2006, against all odds. And where does that leave you? Ha ha, in your bottemless abyss. I love the Sox and I don't care about you Cub fans even though you are also in Chicago: you are scum, the worthless of the worthless, and I hope you never see your pathetic team advance to the Series until, not 2008, but maybe 3008, but even that would be too soon. By that time, the Cardinals will likely have about 200 more championships and the Sox 250. YOU are losers.

Which is more exciting? Senator Obama being the first African-American delegate to be elect by the DNC or the Chicago Cubs on the path to the World Series?

Cub fans are many things, but fair weather fans they are not! What an incredibly stupid remark. The Cub fans support their team decade after decade with nothing to show for it. The White Sox fans show up only when the Sox are in contention. Part of the reason for the ghastly inter-league play is to boost attendance for teams such as the pathetic White Sox. Outside of Chicago you basically have 2 types of fans: Cubs and Cards. The Sox have never caught the attention of the rest of the state; one of the big reasons they hate the Cubs.
