Nothing escapes YouTube! That's Jose Guillen getting into it with the fans at a Royals game earlier this week (via Hot Clicks). I read about the "incident" earlier this week and wondered just how bad it was. The audio in this video isn't that great, but I didn't hear any profanity or anybody talking about Guillen's family, which is what he told reporters after the game. No, it was just a lot of people booing Guillen, with some laughter mixed in the more upset he got.
Mind you, this happened at Kauffman Stadium, so these were ostensibly Royals fans. There was a lot of booing coming from that section, it's not like it was coming from just one heckler.
All in all, it sounds like the fans and the players are getting a little sick of each other, especially after hearing Miguel Olivo's response when asked about his future plans. From Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star:
"It's only, what, (29) more games?" he said. "I'm going to do my best during that and that's it." [...] He and the team hold mutual options for next year, and Olivo said there's no way he'll return. "Hell no," he said.Being 21 games under .500 will do that to you, I guess.

As a diehard Royals fan, it's not a whole lot of fun watching them right now, save for Mike Aviles and Joakim Soria. The Guillen signing has been a disaster. When Bill Bavasi decides he's not worth keeping on the Mariners for 1 year at $9M, it's probably a bad idea to give the guy a 3 year deal at $12M per. Guillen is delusional.

back in the late 70's i lived near kansas city and went to many royal games. the fans back then had something to cheer about, george brett led a team that contended. the royal fans have had little to cheer about for years. it sucks when a teams owners either can't or won't put out the money to bring in quality players.

As a Royals fan that has cheered and stuck with the team through the last 10 years, it kills me that management and Hillman are sticking up for Guillen. Yes, when he's good- he is very good. But save for about 4 weeks, he's been the complete opposite of good. Throw in the butthole antics and it's getting very old.

What a horrible, horrible collection of so called baseball players. One would be tempted to call them a team, but nothing they do resembles one. I feel sorry for the fans of KC. It has been a long time since they were competitive and it looks like we will have a colony on Mars before there is another. I hear the club still insists on charging fans admission to sit through these games. Are the head bags at least free?

It's nice that you can't hear anything on the video. Perhaps you should talk to the numerous fans in the immediate area who were the ones who actually called security in the first place to have the guy who was verbally assaulting Guillen removed from their section. They've already verified Guillen's statements as accurate to Kansas City media.
