On Deck is FanHouse's look at the day's most intriguing baseball matchups.
New York Mets (75-60) at Florida Marlins (68-67) 7:10 PM ET
Hey, why not? Beltran's in Florida, just like Chad Johnson was when he changed his name. And after last night's grand slam against the Marlins to cap a ninth inning rally which started with two outs and nobody on, Carlos Beltran can give himself a cool nickname like Uno Cinco and then take a trip to Broward and get that name changed. Of course, I'm sure that Uno Cinco would have much rather done what he did last night against Adam Wainwright in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS, but that's being picky.
Philadelphia Phillies (73-62) at Chicago Cubs (85-50) - 3:55 PM ET
Of course the Mets still managed to make last night's game interesting after Beltran's grand slam, but we've come to expect that from the Mets bullpen. The Phillies' bullpen, normally very good, hasn't been too far behind the Mets lately ... they've blown five eighth inning leads in the last two weeks, and they managed to give up a 2-0 lead to the Cubs yesterday as well. They've now fallen two games behind the Mets in the East. On the other side, the Cubs have 85 wins in late August yet fans are still finding a reason to boo Alfonso Soriano. Sounds healthy to me.
Los Angeles Dodgers (65-70) at Arizona Diamondbacks (69-65) - 8:10 PM ET
Can entire divisions get contracted? Or maybe they can be separated from the rest of baseball, like Quebec tried to do all the time. That's how ugly this race is, as both of these teams were swept by the dregs of baseball (the Dodgers were swept by the Nationals, and the Snakes were swept by the Padres) coming into this series. The Diamondbacks, after last night's win, are threatening to win this division by default, as they're now 4.5 ahead of the Dodgers, who look like a team whose injuries are exposing some major flaws (Nomar Garciaparra back at shortstop, anyone?) The funny thing is this: If the Diamondbacks win this division, they have as good a chance as anybody to go to the Series with Brandon Webb, Dan Haren, and Randy Johnson on their side.

Actually Mullet One Cinco has an opportunity to do it agian this year in the NLCS. The way the Mets are going right now they have a chance to see the One Cinco they signed long term based on the payoff series he had with Houston a few years ago. He can repeat that performance this year. That would great to watch again 8 homers in a NLCS.
