With the Yankees in serious danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1993, and general manager Brian Cashman in the final year of a three-year deal, there's been a lot of speculation that Cashman won't be returning to the Bronx next season. With both the Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies expected to be looking for new general managers this offseason, Cashman's name has been mentioned as a possible replacement there, and possibly even Washington should the Nationals can Jim Bowden.Of course, none of that will matter if this report out of the New York Post is true. Turns out that even though the Yankees aren't going to make the playoffs, both Hal and Hank Steinbrenner want him back next season.
According to a MLB source, the Steinbrenner family has decided Cashman is the man to lead the organization back from a nightmarish season that will end with the Yankees missing playoffs for the first time since 1993.I would hope Cashman was aware of their wishes, I mean, it's not like the Steinbrenner family has ever been shy when it comes to expressing their feelings.
Cashman, who last week shouldered the blame for the dismal season, met with Hal and Hank yesterday at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. No contract offer was made but, according to the source, Cashman is aware of the Steinbrenners' wishes.

probably not the place too post this, but as the Yankees's demise contunues, it is ironic the one man doing well is Joe Torre in Los Angeles. The Yanks may have be given more "fire" by Joe Giradi, but I would rather have the steady hand of the other Joe on the tiller. He could have gotten more out of the team than the current manager. I like Joe Giradi, and it is a shame he followed Torre, but someone needs to acknowledge that the ship goes at the speed of its captain. The Dodger are steaming ahead, today in first (we will see how they fair at the end) with Joe getting them there. the Yankes are not going to make the playoffs. the standard in New York has been performance...which Joe do think has hit the mark this year?

I wish I had the money to take out a full page ad in every major NY paper.
The Steinbrenners (not my beloved Yankees or my favorite city in the world) deserves what they got this year. They basically slapped Joe Torre in the face. The best manager in baseball deserved so much more than they gave him. How dare they treat him like that. I want him back, and Don Mattingly. What in the name of God were they thinking??!!!! The sons are worse than the father. I am so sick of their arrogance. The wrong people have the power.
GO DODGERS!!!
