The Chicago White Sox have gained a little breathing room in the AL Central standings this week (thank you, Cleveland) opening their lead to two and a half games over the Minnesota Twins. They've also gotten some good news on the injury front, as what looked like a season ending knee injury to Paul Konerko a week ago turned out to be a mild sprain, and Paulie is already back in the Sox lineup.

Of course, Konerko may not be the only member of the team who could be coming back from an injury that looked like it was going to end a season. Carlos Quentin had the cast removed from his wrist on Wednesday, and is expected to start taking his turns in the batting cage in Kansas City this weekend. Though Ozzie Guillen says the Sox aren't going to rush anything.
''He's supposed to hit the first day in K.C.,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said. ''I don't want to rush this kid and all of a sudden we lose him for maybe another month. We've got to take the thing easy and don't rush him.

''And he will make the call when he can come back. I want to wait for him to see what he says, how he does and how he feels, and then we see what we're going to do.''
I don't think there is any chance that Quentin will return before the end of the regular season, but if the White Sox can hold on to their lead and win the division, it wouldn't surprise me to see Quentin back in the lineup in the playoffs.
