Among the items on the Yankees' agenda this offseason will be to get younger and cut payroll -- seemingly in an attempt to clear enough dough to lure CC Sabathia and/or Mark Teixeira. Step up to the front of the free agency line, Jason Giambi and Bobby Abreu!
The general consensus appears that free agents Bobby Abreu and Jason Giambi will be allowed to leave and that fits a logic. The logic being, you have Xavier Nady, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, and Melky Cabrera all under contract ... not to mention that Jorge Posada is old and working his way back from injury (so he'll likely have to DH some). The DH and OF positions are all taken care of. As for 1B, well, Teixeira is sitting there on the free agency market. He's younger and better than Giambi, and he'll command a pretty penny this offseason.
Look, with the pitching staff en route to containing Chien Ming-Wang, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, and Ian Kennedy, it makes sense to move towards the future ... especially after failing to make the playoffs for the first time in a millenium this year.
Adding Sabathia and Teixeira doesn't make the Yankees too old, as neither are 30 yet.
It's hardly a full-scale youth wave, but we are talking about the Yankees.

why would you trade Abriu? Get rid of Giambi and trade that bum A-Rod! Let Petite go, and tell Cano to shape up or ship out, anyone can play like does.

I dont think the Angels are going to let Texiera go that easily. They have $10 million they wont have to pay Frankie anymore as he will be gone and I dont think they are going to pick up Garret Andersons contract option which is another $16 million so they will have lots of money to resign Tex. The Angels are on of the few teams that have a good relationship with that scum of an agent Boras. I guess we'll see.

YOU WISE BASEBALL PEOPLE WHO CALL AROD A BUM TRULY SHOW YOUR IGNORANCE. I BET YOU NEVER PLAYED ON A SINGLE TEAM OR HIT A FASTBALL!
AROD IS AT THIS TIME A CANDIDATE FOR THE HALL OF FAME EVEN HE STOPPED PLAYING TODAY.
HE IS MORE CONSISTENT THAN EVEN THE GREAT BAMBINO.
HE HAS 12 SEASONS WITH 35 OR MORE HOME RUNS AND OVER 100 RBIs. THE BABE HAD 11 SEASONS. YOU TALK ABOUT PRODUCTION?
YOU GUYS REALLY KNOW SPORTS!

A-Rod is a talented player no doubt. With that said, I think he's one of the biggest chokers in the clutch I've ever seen. He's great when there's no pressure on him. Put him in playoff time or with runners in scoring position with the game on the line and you can bet your a** he'll hit into a double play, strikeout, or hit a pop-up. Look up his stats--the proof is in the pudding. As much as I despise Manny and Big Papi, those two are a couple of the best clutch hitters I've ever seen. A-Rod's not even in the same league with those two in pressure situations which is why Yankee fans will NEVER embrace A-Rod.

yup. its goodbye to giambi and abreau..abreau really is too much of a streaky hitter, and defintitely not worth $16 million a year...pettite is also a goner...he doesnt seem to have anything left...our main focus must be on sabathia, a.j. burnett and texiara. truthfully we will need all three..as for a-rod...he is an excellent individual player but he is absolutely not dependable with the game on the line....he truly is a choke artist....he is extremely dangerous with the bases loaded and the team alreay ahead by 5 runs, but if the team is behind by a couple of runs he crumbles...derek jeter is much more of a money player...he is a true winner, a-rod is just a good individual player who is at his best when there is nothing on the line...

W/H ONLY 7 PEOPLE ANSWERING TO THIS POINT I DONT SEE A BIG THING ABOUT LOBBYING FOR BOTH OF THESE PLAYERS. I LOVE BOTH OF THEM.JASON HAS THE PROMLEM THAT I FEEL HE " OWES THE YANKEES MONEY " FOR THE TIME HE DIDNT PLAY BECAUSE HE CHOOSE TO TAKE STERIODS AND THE YANKS PAYED HIM AND WITHOUT THAT MONEY TO SPEND ON SOMEONE ELSE ( VERY POSS ANOTHER PICTHER ). THE YANKEES STUCK BY HIM FOR THE MOST PART BUT AT ( I THINK 36 OR BETTER ) AND LAST WAS PAYED 20 MILLION A YEAR HE'S WAY OVER PRICED NOW. IF HE'S SMART BACK TO OAKLAND HE SHD GO.... NOW FOR BOBBY, HE'S JUST THAT GOOD AND IM VERY SURE THE PHILLIES WOULD TAKE HIM BACK IN ONE SECOND. I BELIEVE THEY SHD TAKE HIM BACK AND GIVE HIM 2 YEARS WITH A OPTION YEAR ALLLLLLLLL @ GOOD $$$MONEY$$$....100 RBIS AND 100 RUNS EVERY YEAR AND GOOD BATT.AVG. THIS IS VERY HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS......

If Arod is that bad get rid of him. I am from Chicago and we would love him. We will trade u Theriot a great clutch SS, Marquis a decent pitcher and Koyle Hill a real nice young catcher and then u will have the money to get CC.

A rod is good. He brings excitement to the team. He can do almost every thing except pitching and catching.

I think getting sabathis and Textria is a very good idea. If these two are added, the pitching will carry my beloved Yankees to the Play offs next year. This year it was not to be.. as the injuries piled up. Girardi has to stay to provide some continuity.
