Roger Clemens was one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball. Since the end of last season, however, he has done nothing but destroy his own legacy. Instead of pulling an Andy Pettitte or Brian Roberts-type mea culpa in the wake of the Mitchell Report, Rocket egotistically thought he could somehow beat the entire legal system and clear his name. In the process of trying to salvage his own name, he's brought down family members, former friends, and most of all himself. All to save his reputation.
In looking through the NY Post this morning, one can find yet another example of the selfish nature of Roger Clemens.
"Debbie and I held his hand while we watched the game, and he was heartbroken," said (Mother-in-law Jan) Wild, 70. "Not mad. He still loves baseball and the Yankees, but it was sad what they did to him."Once again, Rocket finds a way to make something about himself. It's all about what other people have done "to him." Rocket's never done anything wrong. He's sitting in an area of our country which is in absolute shambles from a devastating hurricane. Millions still don't have power ... and not being included in a video montage by the New York Yankees is what brings Clemens down.
What a despicable state of affairs. Hey Rocket, instead of wasting millions of dollars to salvage your name and sulking about the Yankees non-inclusion of an alleged liar, adulterer, and cheater; maybe you should be helping those in your living area that need helped.
The Yankees owe Rocket nothing. They paid him far too much money for many years to play baseball, including a ludicrous contract last season. He paid them back by pitching quite well. The Yankees gave him a chance to finally win a few World Series rings, despite his overall pedestrian postseason numbers (12-8, 3.75).
I also want to note that there was no inclusion of Joe Torre in the festivities ... and I did find that curious. The man oversaw a dynasty and once again made playoff appearances a given in the Bronx. This was much more a story to me than poor Roger weeping -- once again -- about something that happened to him with nary an echo of accountability.
As I said, despicable.

I,too, found it quite convenient as to how the yankees forgot about Joe Torree's incredible contribution. As a Red Sox fan, I know far to well , how complicated and time consuming is a manager's job trying to keep overpaid prima donnas happy and productive in both Boston and New York.
Joe deserved a lot of praise similar to Bernie Williams...but I guess the fact that the dodgers will be in the post seeason and the yankees will not will be praise enough.
Even as an avid, rabid Red Sox fan...Joe Torre's job as yankee Skipper was incredible!!!!

Hey Forrest Bosox fan,,, Thankyou for recognizing the credit Torre deserves.. and by the way,, i think you have the best Manager in baseball in Terry Francona. Kudos to you from a die hard Yankees fan.
The Yankees did not snub Torre, they were afraid that he would receive a better ovation that Bernie Williams.
This was to be Bernie's night & indeed it was.
The Yankees were also afraid to inlcude Clemens, afraid that he would recieve too many boo's
After reading these & other comments, it is clear the Yankees did the right thing,, sparing Roger the harsh critics.

Quote:"Debbie and I held his hand while we watched the game, and he was heartbroken," ...PLEASE...LOL!!!!, put the "violin" away. Clemens is a stubborn, arrongant liar, and got what he deserves. On the other hand, the Yankees Organization showed how UNDERHANDED and CONNIVING they are by excluding Joe Torre. What a bunch of INGRATES.

I think it's a snub to everybody involved that Yankee Statdium is to be destroyed in the first place. It is arguably one of the most famous buildings on earth, and an irreplacable piece of Americana. It should be preserved for future generations

The New York Yankees messed up big time.
1. Getting rid of Joe Torre, how stupid Hank...
2. Demolishing the real, and land mark Yankee Stadium
3. Joe Torre made Yankees win 6 Championships.
(Hank Steinbrenner = Fail) (Joe Torre = Win)

Joe Torre exuded class in all that he did. He broght dignity to the Yankees and maintained a positive clubhouse throughout the years of adversity after the Yankees lost to the Diamondbacks in 2001. He managed egos and superstars and tried to make them interact as a team, but unfortunately the last great TEAMS the Yankees had included Martinez, O'Neill, Brosius, Williams and a cast of teammates that worked together to help the Yankees to victory. The good of the team superceded individual superstardumb.

give the egotistical, selfish bastard another shot of juice and he'll forget all about it. he is a disgrace to the game and to his own legacy.
A 57 yr old lifelong Red Sox fan who never cared for Clemens ... he & manny should own an island together and stay there.

For the Yankees to exclude Torre and the Rocket, the Greatest pitcher of all time is a disgrace as is the author of this trash who failed to note Roger has been in Houson helping out the storm ravaged city. If you dont like Roger fine but get your facts straight. He doesn't need your sympathy. He is the Rocket steroids or not The Greatest Pitcher of all Time. To mention Wells, Giambi, Knobby and the Phony Pettite is a joke.

Unless you live in Houston or one of the 28 counties affected by Ike as we and many I know do, and have HEARD or SEEN personally, Roger helping or contributing to the devastation, you have no clue what you're talking about Buttsy - are you from Houston? Roger is a loser and a liar, and personally, I know that if you hire a pit bull to represent you it's because you're hoping that pit bull will get you off...a LIE!!!! Wake up and smell what we call coffee, because you have no clue what you're talking about. With all the money he has and what THIS city has done for him, regardless, he SHOULD be out there helping his fellow man, but we haven't heard anything about that and if he was, I can promise you, it would be ALL over the news here because he'd want EVERYONE to know about it!

Why didn't the Yankees include Clemens? Because they made themselves look like asses last year (who can forget Susan Waldman gushing out words like"Look up in the luxury box--I think I see Roger Clemens"" ie, our savior!! And it was classless not to include Joe Torre, but that's OK, because old Joe is going to the playoffs and the Yankees are going home. But, I did hear somewhere the last couple days that, believe it or not, much of the country simply wasn't tuned in to what was happening in the Bronx. Just another example of New York imagining itself as the center of the world, which it is not. As a baseball fan I was tuned in, and I must say I missed not seeing Torre represented, but not Clemens.

I am a Red Sox fan for over 70 years and I feel Joe Torre should have been mentioned as one of the New York Yankees greatest managers. Maybe he will show everyone now how great he is. With Red Sox help, Manny Ramirez.

Joe did his job well & with class but he did not make the Yankees great. They were already great.
Joe was just fortunate to be there.
Joe turned down a one year offer when his organization needed him the most.
Was Joe insulted with a one year offer?
Did he suspect the team was going downhill?
If he stuck with his team and got fired when the going got rough he would have cemented himself in Yankee history.
And Roger the..................!###@!#@#%^$%
I will continue to enjoy reading about Roger every once in awhile for years to come as he solidifies the type person he is.
Thats the Mets fan in me for when he hrew the bat at Mike.
