I'll admit that I am a tad bit biased on this examination, because I hate Chip Caray as an announcer. From the unoriginal "Steve Stone has never picked up a dinner check" every freaking game for his years with the Cubs to the way he laughs when he finishes non-funny sentences ... I just think he's a brutal baseball announcer. If his name wasn't Caray (or Albert or Brennaman) he'd be working minor league games on the radio. Usually when fans say the announcers seemed like they were rooting against a team, it's lame. Yet last night it really felt like Chip was pulling for the Angels, and I'm unbiased. The cherry on top was when the Angels tied the game on a two RBI single off the bat of Torii Hunter.
You see, the Bostonians had been doing the old, slow, "TORRRRRRR - EEEEEEEEE" chant during the at-bat.
The instant Vladimir Guerrero crossed home plate, Chip exclaimed -- in jubilation -- "And no one's chanting now!"
It came off like smack-talk. I could understand if he was a home announcer -- like doing play by play for the Angels radio station -- but he's supposed to be a national announcer, thus without bias.
Sure sounded biased to me.

The most bias announcing ever in a baseball game has to be Brent Musberger in the 95 ALDS between New York and Seattle. Every time Ken Griffey Jr hit a home run I thought the man was going to have a heart attack from excitement. When the Yankees would score he was usually to busy saying how great Griffey was to even notice.

Agree with your assessment of Brett Musberger, but expanded it more to: The worst sportscaster in any sport...Little league, Basketball, Baseball, Football.
He makes so many mistakes, doesn't know the players as he should, gets excited over nothing and doesn't get too enthused over good plays/players.
I used to think he was very good...don't know what happened.

The "unbiased" announcers for ESPN and the like are clearly not unbiased. They always have a bias in favor of NY or LA, the biggest markets. They're shills for the big markets. The worst, by any measurement, however, is Joe Morgan. If he isn't on Steinbrenner's payroll, he should be.

The ESPN announcers suck period. I am a biig Dodgers fan and when the Dodgers played the Mets two years ago the announcers sounded like they were going to run on the field and give the Paul LoDuca a bj when he tagged two Dodgers out at the plate. They come off as unprofessional to everyone, even big market fans, They just suck. Vin Scully could actually be much more unbiased in a nationally televised game. Those guys blow.

I disagree. While I don't think Caray is the best announcer around, he certainly didn't show a bias towards either team. This is lame.
He was simply reporting that "no one was chanting". And they weren't. Smack talk? Ok Jim Rome.......And is that the only example you have? Kind of lame. Just another disgruntled Cubs fan on the attack.

What the hell is your problem? Why are you dissing the Cubs? It was a Red Sox/Angels game, The Cubs had nothing to do with it. Get your sh-t straight before you start running your ill prepared mouth. Signed: Die hard Cubs Fan!

I think the worst baseball announcers in MLB are Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. It surprises me that Tim McCarver is not a manager, since he knows everything!! (I would have done........ he should have done...........When I played......... I actually turn the sound off and listen to the radio!!! The Espn Announcers are just as bad. The only thing Joe Morgan knows is Barry Bonds and Pete Rose!!! Every baseball announcer should have to go to the Vin Scully School of Announcing. Please start one, Vin!!!!!!!!

Wait a minute. I've been watching/listening to baseball for 50 years. Are you asking is somebody bad, or, is there somebody out there as bad as Tim McCarver?

Why are all you folks griping and complaining about baseball announcers?? How petty with every other important issues we face today. Only thing comes to mind is that your bitching emanates from your team losing..... Otherwise enjoy the game!

r2cadys.... you are full of it.......Boston fans are not fly by night fans or bandwagoners....They have paid their dues. Those bleaches at Fenway, Foxboro, and The Garden have always been relatively full. From the begininng to the end of a season. No matter the weather. They have always supported their favorite teams and now they are reaping the rewards.Obviously they will not win every championship game, But because of what their fans have been through in the past..they are pretty tough. It really is alot of fun to be a sports fan in Boston right now. The term "Faith Rewarded" speaks volumes....And.I for one, will not apologize for being happy.

If that bothered you Matt, you'd better stop watching playoff games of any sport because you'll have unnecessary heart failure before you're 40...for nothing. The bad announcing is a minor point. And, your comment about Caray (Skip and Chip), (Al, Donny, et al) Albert, and Brennaman should tell you why. And that doesn't include the guys who got their jobs because they are someone's brother, cousin, husband, in-law, etc. But what's the alternative? Ex-ballplayers like McCarver, Harrelson, Lyons, and Morgan?
