With Manny Ramirez still in the postseason with the Dodgers, and his former team taking on the Rays, Mr. Ramirez has been quite the topic of conversation in baseball lately. Some people are remembering how great a player Manny is now that he seems to care again, and then there are others who are more focused on how Manny orchestrated his way out of Boston.Tim McCarver was one of the latter, calling Manny's actions "despicable." Well, while that seems a bit harsh, Mr. McCarver is entitled to his opinion. Besides, who cares what Tim McCarver thinks? If you really want to know what to think of Manny you have to go to a man that knows more about baseball than anybody else: Dick Vitale.
Vitale called Terry Francona's Sox a "classy club'' and agreed with Tim McCarver's inflammatory assessment of Manny Ramirez. (Earlier this week, McCarver labeled Manny's actions before the trade "despicable.'') "I'm very upset with the way Manny carried on at the end,'' said Vitale, who'll throw out the first pitch at the Trop tomorrow. "It's absolutely unbelievable the way he orchestrated his way out of there.''McCarver is vindicated!
Seriously, though, can we get off of Manny's case? Let's look at Manny's situation as if he were an actual human being (which I think he is) instead of being a slave to us. Now, let's say you work somewhere where you aren't happy. You hate your boss, you're not particularly fond of your co-workers, and the customers? Oh my God are they annoying.
Do you start to look for a new job? One that will make you happy? Yeah? Well then why the hell can't Manny?

I agree with Tim McCarver and Dickie V. on this one and I'm not even a Red Sox fan. But after hearing how that prima donna jerk Ramirez, pushed down the 64 year old traveling secretary of the Red Sox because he couldn't get free tickets for a game in Tampa, I have no use whatsoever for that greasy looking mophead. The Dodgers have a lot of class guys like Joe Torre, Jeff Kent and Nomar Garciaparra, but Ramirez is a scuzz, I don't care how well he hits a baseball. Oh, and to the idiot who wrote the blog, if being a slave means getting paid 10 million a year to play ball or whatever that mophead is getting, then where do I apply. I'd rather be a "slave" than be working at a regular job like I am now.

Tom--Don't tell me that despite how bad one's behavior is, you will defend them. The fact is Manny Ramirez pushed the Red Sox's 64-year old Traveling Secretary to the ground because the Secretary could not get Manny 16 tickets to a baseball game. Anyone who behaves in such a manner is, as Tim McCarver correctly pointed out, dispicable. Your defense of Manny is sad and, unfortunately, a sign of our times.

What an IDIOTIC comparison!!!! Have you ever heard of a contract??? Baseball is a TEAM sport and when a player signs on...while he is under contract to his team..he is obligated to give 100% of his talent for the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS he is compensated. That coupled with loyalty to the fans and team that you just won a world championship with makes what Manny did indeed beyond despicable!!!!! He is selfish and self centered....and definitely far from being a class act...what a shame for a man of his talent. Will he be a Hall of Famer?...absolutely can one argue that his numbers have been spectacular....again absolutely. The sad thing is he will never be remembered for the selfish tantrum episodes, the way he dogged it this year to force the trade...and his less than stellar defensive skills. Nah.... that was just Manny being Manny!! right??????
At his age he may well never get a chance to be in or win a World Series again...so no doubt when it is time for his induction...it will be under a Red Sox banner he will want to reside there in history........IMHO...he should not be given the honor of the Red Sox colors he shunned and spit upon.
THE WRITER OF THE ABOVE ARTICLE ASK WHY MANNY SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LOOK FOR A NEW JOB LIKE ANYONE ELSE...I SAY AGAIN...WHAT AN IDIOTIC COMPARISON!!!!

Slave-no comparison. Manny was getting paid millions to hit a ball, and catch a ball-the 2nd of which he was rather suspect in doing. So he didn't like how he was being treated according to him so he sat out-did he refuse his pay?, his perks? No, he had the team spend more money paying for bogus x-rays and MRI's and caused more headaches for his manager and teammates as each had to play down the obvious childish antics of one of their co-workers. I like manny, but I have a harsh opionion of how he acted in the last weeks of his stay in Boston. I find it a little insulting to pat him on the back because he is doing the job in LA he was getting paid to do in Boston. Tom you need to grow up to. In the real world "slaves" aren't paid 20 million a year.
