Manny Continues to Alienate Boston

Last Thursday I told you about the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston auctioning off a 1967 Lincoln Continental that they received as a gift from former Red Sox left fielder/enigma Manny Ramirez. Ramirez donated the car to the hospital with the intent of them selling it to raise money for the hospital, and that's what they planned on doing.

Of course, then Manny got traded to the Dodgers and left behind a lot of Red Sox fans who were quite bitter about the way he left. As a result, the hospital's auction on eBay hasn't garnered the kind of attention (okay, maybe the economy has something to do with it) they had been hoping for, so they came up with an idea to raise more money. Then Manny went and messed the whole thing up.
So the hospital came up with a plan to send the car out to La-La and have the Dodgers promote the sale and run the auction. Because, of course, Manny is a lot more popular with Dodgers fans than Sox boosters at the moment.

"The idea was that that they could tap into the L.A. money where Manny is king right now," said Someone Who Knows. "And the proceeds would be split between the hospital and the Dodgers' charity."

All was proceeding nicely until the Dodgers decided they needed to consult Ramirez. Sadly, Manny got all Manny and decreed that a third charity he has hooked up with out on the Left Coast must be involved. At which point, the hospital decided that they might do better just keeping the car and auctioning it here.
Manny can't even do nice things right with Bostonians these days.

The hospital is still auctioning the car off on eBay, and the current high bid is $44,300 with four days remaining. Manny put over $200,000 of work into the car.
